    Is a 3k laptop worth it if I get a GTX 1070?

    This. You need to tell the configuration.. CPU / SSDs etc. It also depends what you plan to do with it.

    I would say it should cope with 1440p without AA just fine.

    3k is 1440p. I'll have these specs with the laptop.

    GPU: GTX 1070
    CPU:Intel I7-6700
    RAM:16GB DDR4 2133MHz

    I'll mostly be gaming and video editing. I'll sometimes be using it for Photoshop and Web Editing too. What FPS should I be expecting at Ultra with this screen res? I'm willing to turn down some settings to get good performance.

    2K = 2560x1440
    3K = 3200x1800
    4K = 3840x2160

    Depends on the game. I would say it can run most games. But like true ultra Witcher 3 and like Star Citizen would drop some frames. GTA V and BF4, Black Ops 3, Rise of the Tomb Raider, stuff like that would run well.

    1440p is more like 2.5k. Some people round that up, some down.

    1080p is 2k with 1920 being the closest figure.

    2560x1440 = 1280x720 x2. 720p has been the baseline of HD resolution in the era of 16:9 aspect ratios, hence why 1440p is more commonly referred to as 2K. You're arguing semantics.

    But it's not 2x, it's 4x (2x2).
