So far I've checked alienware, cyberpowerpc, ibuypower, and sager and the last seems to have the cheapest laptops with gtx 200 series. Very tempting, but is this the right time to buy?

That depends. Can you wait? Cus the laptop technologies since the past few gens have not changed much in terms of pratical performance (since the advent of the 8800s). But its always a gamble. Who knows when the next leap is right?

new technology is always on the horizion but since the 200 series is relatively new if you want the longest lifespan out of your laptop now wouldnt be a bad time. The updated Radeon 4870s might be good to wait for but other than that I think you will be ok "future proofing" wise (or as well off as you can really be in this age).

The best time would be whenever the new tech come out, which is right now for the GT280.

It all depends on what you want and how patient you can be. As for me I currently have an 8800M GTX in my laptop and it runs Crysis pretty good on gamer settings with a couple on mainstream. I really can't complain but I do want a next gen laptop and I am carefully considering the D900F, but I have decided I will wait until Q4 when Nvidia releases their new 40nm mobile (GT200) series GPU's and Clevo starts shipping them in the D900F (or (D900XF??) if there is an SLI revision by then).

For me the 280M's (G92) just aren't enough of an improvement over the 8800M GTX for me to buy any of these new laptops right now. If you have a good laptop and can hold out for something that will most likely perform at "around" double the performance of the 280M then wait for Q4 if you can't wait then I suggest taking a look at XoticPC or powernotebooks as they tend to have the cheapest prices around for Clevo/280M equipped laptops.

Yea, but dont buy untill you need too. I mean, of course you cant wait forever, but if there is no urgency, then I would wait till you need it, so then that is the safest bet to last you the longest.

Future proofing doesn't work. You won't be able to tell what's next and when it will come out. If you have the money to spare, buy the best you can get now and use it until it isn't able to run the newest game at the resolution you want.

Ok. I'm not gonna be able to buy any electronics for the next 6 months or so, but I'll go with np5797.

It's not refundable btw, is it?

Read the clevo guide and familiarise yourself with the naming scheme, a D901F would simply be a different colour, if it's a revision to the hardware it would be the D900xF (where x is any letter, possibly E as in the M570ETU, or M860ETU)

Oh no! I was making a point about something hypothetical happening, I don't need to know the naming scheme as it is unimportant to me (and probably to the majority of people). No need for you to derail the thread as a result of it. Anyways I fixed it for you, you know because its so important and to put your mind at ease. Anyways back on topic, like I stated earlier I am waiting until Q4 to see whats up with the mobile GT200's and what Clevo has in store for their D900F or if applicable D900(X)F.
