I own a Clevo M570 (Sager 5797) and it is plugged in 90% of the time. I'm wondering if it's ok to leave the battery in all the time or if I should charge it and then remove it (until I need it to travel)? I couldnt find anything about this in the manual....

If you are 100% certain that you will not have a power cut or a spike , because if you do and you dont have your battery installed you will loose anything you are working on , and it could possible damage your hard drive.

I just leave my battery in all the time. Doesn't seem to matter... battery lasts the same as it did the day I bought it over a year ago.

Precisely. I personally make sure to discharge my battery to below at least 50% 1-2 times a month. No need to remove the battery. Besides, AFAIK the m570tu battery has a rubber foot on it which is required to keep the notebook sitting level on the surface.

On a side note, remember to remove the battery when you're not using the notebook for more than a week or two.

I just leave my battery in all the time...saving a couple of percents of wearage just isn't worth the hassle.

Very much so. I never remove my battery unless I am disassembling my notebooks.

Also, in all honesty, who'd have one of these awesome clevo machines and *not* use it for a week or two... the point of buying them was to use them like crazy! ^^

How do you discharge a battery to 0? I know it shuts down around 5ish %, can it go to 0?

Set your critical battery percentage in power options to 1%. However, 5% is close enough so I wouldn't worry about it. If you want your computer to cut off at the very minimum amount of battery left, then you can have your computer idle in power saver mode with the screen off and other unnecessary stuff disabled. This is overkill, but it's fun to do when you're eating or taking a shower or anything else AFK. However, it is still dependant on the battery because the PCB has absolute control over when to cut off current to the notebook to turn it off. All PCB's will cut current when cell voltages hit ~3.6v.

Hmm, I'm sorry for asking this...but I can't find it illustrated in the manual. I'm having a hard time attaching the battery to the laptop, and I dont want to force it. Do you slide in the bottom part first (with the 3 plastic extrusions) and then push HARD to make the top part snap in, or do you start with the top part and then snap in the bottom?

Yes, you start at the bottom and then lower the top in. The tab spring on the battery is a tough little bugger so don't hesitate to use a bit of force on it to snap the battery back in. If you're paranoid, just hold the tab back when you're easing the battery back in it's socket.

My M570RU has 2 years, and i´ve never taken the battery out. I´ve also always followed the Clevo recommendations regarding battery wear. Truth is that, in the beginning, with UV, low performance mode, 1/3 screen brightness and just surfing the net, i would get 2h30m of battery lifetime. Now, 2 years later i only get 1h15m....

Thanks, I managed to lock it in and it shows as charging. However, the lid is not flush on the left side (left of the lock area) and I wonder if its normal...Before putting the battery in, I noticed 2 little screws or pins sticking out in the battery slot...do you have these too?

The easiest way is to run it till windows shuts down, then boot into the bios with minimum brightness and leave it till it powers off, that way you don't risk having any corrupted data when windows shuts down unexpectedly...

Whoa, what the hell? It looks like those are the screws that are holding down the aluminium keyboard base under the keyboard. Try to take a look under the keyboard and see if Eurocom made the mistake of accidentally using the 4mm screws in the 8mm holes and the 8mm screws in the 4mm holes.

Oh my... I'd rather not "open up" the laptop just in case I mess it up. I guess I will send these pics to Eurocom and tell them I cant insert the battery because of that....what do you think?

Yes, you must document this and let Eurocom know.

I've emailed Eurocom's president M.B. and included the pictures. I politely demanded that this be fixed at the same time as my GPU when I pay them a visit. Wow...never ending surprises!

You can always fix it yourself; it probably takes no more than 10 seconds to lift off the keyboard and see what's up with the screws. Then again, you already pushed forward your claim to Eurocom so it's best to have them deal with it now.
