I am thinking of buying a new computer when the new Sager line up is released with the Skylake CPUS but now come to think of it, I had my current training Alienware replaced 3 times and just had a motherboard and 2 graphics cards replaced under warranty on the 3rd one.
This makes me think if I have issues with the Sager it's gonna be a big problem since I live in Dubai a day they have no service center here and enter sending the laptop to the USA if I ever encounter a problem is both very costly a day time consuming.
Do you think it's dumb to buy such a high end date laptop from abroad with no support Nad I might as well go for a desktop bought locally?

I would look at Clevo vendors close to you too. Get an idea of costs locally and compare. Locally may be EU in your case. You can't always look at the bottom line price. As you noted, what about repairs and the associated cost.
-
Living in Dubai or in a country that doesn't have a support center shouldn't forbide you from having fun with a clevo. My advice would be to maybe look at computer manufacturers that have a support center in the MENA region, maybe asus/msi, before choosing a clevo.

I can see how you are concerned since you've had some issues with your Alienware. All computer brands can have problems, but I would not let that say your decision. I'd go with what you want the most.
However is service/warranty is on the top of your priority list then I would make a hardware list of what you want then find which have service centers around you. -

Laptop 1 = Alienware 18 / 4700MQ / 16 GB RAM / 2x770M GTX SLI
Light bleeding from screen. DELL Replaced the LCD but that didn't change things so they gave me a new laptop
Laptop 2 = Alienware 18/4800MQ / 16 GB RAM / 2xRadeon R9 M290X Crossfire
No real problems but I kept getting an Event ID 18 upon every reboot in the event log viewer stating "CPU Cache Hierarchy Error" so they replaced the CPU but the error remained then they gave me this laptop which was a big upgrade
Laptop 3 = Alienware 18 / 4900MQ/32 GB RAM /2x 780M GTX SLI
Last for about 5 months, I upgraded the CPU from a 4900MQ to a 4940MX, then it just died.......
What happened was, my 4.1GHz. overclock is rock stable thanks to @Mr. Fox but then stupid me thought since the temps are fine, let me try a 42x4 overclock....
I did that and the laptop won't boot so I though no problem, I'll just remove the CMOS battery and battery cable for 10 mins and the BIOS settings will go back to default which has always worked for me....
I removed the battery then when reconnecting the main battery back, I noticed a small spark in the place where I am connecting it, fire up the system and it won't boot......
I think what happened is maybe because I had a modified vBIOS on both my GPUs it was failing to boot for some reason.
So DELL sent a technician today who replaced both my GPUs with 2 brand new 780M GTX + a new motherboard......
you see, if this wasn't a laptop with such local support, can you imagine what hassle I would have to go through sending it to the USA, paying an arm and a leg for shipping, waiting for at least 2 weeks till it goes back and forth and being repaired........ -
- we get much better prices than a member of the public using DHL or a similar courier service
- we can deal with any customs and tax paperwork to make sure that the shipment goes smoothly! -
^^That's exactly who I had in mind for Clevo EU.

So XMG is a Clevo rebranded laptop? -
XMG (Xtreme) / Schenker (Work) model lines.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

Is there a place on your site that lists which Clevo chassis your XMG/Schenker machine is built on? For example the U705 and W705 are built on the P770ZM but I don't see the reference. It would be very helpful, especially, for the "what notebook should I buy" forum when I recommend a Clevo in the EU. -
If you look at the Owners Forum threads the first post tends to show companies like us that sell laptops based on that chassis. I would say that the title can cause confusion, similarly because this section of the nbr forum is calles Sager and Clevo which does lead some people to missunderstand that XMG uses Sager chassis when of course we don't, we use amongst others Clevo chassis. -
As for publicizing what you build on your own site, I can't help but think it can only be beneficial. For people looking for Clevos that came here and learned about them, like I did, then wanting to know where to buy, this information, in an easy to find place, would help a lot. I'm in the US, when I go to Mythlogic I see this "MYTHLOGIC Phobos 1715 Chassis (Clevo P770ZM)" when I go to LPC-Digital I see this "Sager NP2650 (Clevo W650SZ)", I go to Pro-Star I see "Prostar/Clevo", Power Notebooks "Category: Sager & Clevo...", XoticPC "Clevo / Sager". All of those are easy to see.
The "Clevo Resellers in the EU" is a nice thread to let me know who sells Clevos. But if I decided I wanted a P650SG after learning about it on NBR, I wouldn't see it in that thread, and I shouldn't. If I decided to look for it at mySN, after reading excellent reviews or recommendations here, how would I find it? Go to notebookcheck and search for a review to learn the corresponding model?I have, when I recommended your company and didn't see the info on http://mysn.co.uk/ easily or at all.
Maybe a search function on your site would help. If I typed in the word "Clevo" I would get results to the Clevo model number and the link would bring up the XMG / Schenker model. -
I have looked into something like this before. It is too difficult to list the branding that every reseller and system builder use. The reason why this forum is called "Sager and Clevo" is because while Sager is technically a Clevo reseller, they are more easily recognized in the US market than Clevo is as most US resellers get their machines from Sager. There simply isn't enough room in forum post titles to add in what Clevo system builders brand their machines as and making separate forums for each system builder would separate vital information into other threads and make it harder for the consumer to get all of the information on a particular Clevo base.

Is it dumb to buy a Sager if I live in Dubai?
