I'm receiving my NP9150 tomorrow afternoon and I was wondering if I have to buy an external USB DVD Drive to boot and install Windows 7 since no OS/drivers will be installed on a newly purchased Crucial M4, which I will install in the NP9150?

This is my very first laptop and I'm unsure if the Optical Disc Drive in the laptop requires an OS and drivers to work and allow me to boot from CD/DVD.

Yup, if it's not working, check in BIOS for settings like boot order and if external boot is allowed.

Alright, so... this is what I do?:

    1) Power on lappy
    2) Open the optical drive
    3) Insert DVD
    4) Power off
    5) Power on
    5) F12 while bios is loading
    6) Select optical drive

    ?

Edit: Gah.. nvm I'll figure it out lol.

One thing to remember, when booting before wimdows loads no drivers are loaded, everything is running on firmware.

Therefore if you have any problems drivers at this point drivers are never the cause.

Yes you can, it just sounded like you dont have one already and have to go buy one. I was suggesting an alternate option to that.

If you get an ISO of the version of windows you have a key for you can go to pendrivelinux.com and download universal USB installer or the other one yumi (multiboot) to make a windows 7 USB to have a little bit faster install but then again ur installing to an ssd haha btw I use those programs before to make a lot live Linux USB I have used it for windows as well its the easyest way I have found to make a win7 USB drive for installing
