I search google and found that
    in the older type like ' 4780, 4080, 4760, 8890, and 5680' has a bios to
swap the ctrl key to the bottom left.

BUT what I need is to make the FN in the BOTTOM LEFT.....
in 8662(origin is ctrl in the bottom left)

I get used to the kb layout of thinkpad and
my hand is not big. so a near ctrl is more comfortable for me.......

I do not think there is an option for that.

the majority of people like having the CTRL on the left side.

... generally, one of the "Cons" of notebooks is if it had the Fn key on the left corner.

You can contact your vendor and see what they say, does not hurt to ask.

I haven't heard of software doing that. Sounds more of a hardware mod. But yea, ask your vendor. Maybe they have keyboards in that configuration?

Unfortunately, there is no keyboard in this configuration, nor is there any tool we know of to swap functionality between the ctrl and fn keys. Since the FN key controls actual hardware functions on the notebook, it would require a BIOS-level control to switch functionality between the keys.

As Eleison said above, there is no key code as the fn key press does not even get to the operating system, it is interrubted by the BIOS.

Swapping the 2 keys would require you to do a hardware mod (swap the 2 keys traces on the keyboard pcb)

Honestly, I don't even understand why do they put the fn key there near the lower left corner in the first place. It is not a key used extensively, specially for desktop replacements, so it would find a better spot somewhere else (like in those two spaces around the arrows keys), and then make the ctrl key bigger. Anyway, I think the easiest way to solve the problem is to glue them together... or try some other kind of hardware mod.

KB for desktop is absolutely different from the laptop.
the shape of laptop makes it hard to feel the layout.

Before I owned my thinkpad, I also thought about that 'stupid' setting.
But after I used tp for several months, I really found out that
    it was great.
it is very easy to access the fn key and you can press ctrl+c
easily because the distance between ctrl and c is just about the
width of the hand.(or my hand is not big enough....)

have you tried popping off the keys carefully with a screwdriver and switching them?

physically switching them will not do anything since there is not electrical or software differences from key to key.

one would have to modify the keyboard PCB, like someone else had suggested.

Don't know bout that, I know you can hold control and move your mousewheel up or down to change the size of items on a page or your desktop icons lol

This thread is still going? Look, changing key functions ain't gonna happen without major intervention of the manufacturer.

No, not possible. The brightness controls are hard-coded into the system, just like the locations of the Fn and Ctrl keys.

I hate when the Ctrl key is put anywhere else but the bottom left most key.
