Hello,
I know the fans don't ramp up to max speed until ~92C, but is it worth forcing the max fan speeds to keep the temps down? I've OC'd my card slightly and the temps max out around 80 while gaming. I guess my concern is: does the decreased fan life balance out with the decreased temperature in the long run?

Not worth the fan speed life and noise IMO

80 C ± max is not bad, so I would say for the sake of your fan's longevity, don't max . Solder joints melting point is anywhere from 90 C to 450 C, and I believe the ones on circuit boards is (more specifically, but still approximately) 180 C to 190 C. You shouldn't experience excessive chip creep with your max temps, with that being said.

Ok looks like I'll leave them be. thanks for the help guys.

always depends on the situation
if ure hunting for bench scores and try to cram in the max score possible before total meltdown ud definitely be happy about that 100% fan speed force option
in ur case at 80C max its not really necessary tho

Well I suppose if he was "playing" benchmarks all the time then yeah but that would be pretty dull lol.

uh huh, look whos talking

Oh I play a nice number of games too
Some benchmarking is fun but it should not change your behavior when gaming.

I guess or some of us who use the laptop for 3d rendering, it's worth having that 100% fan speed. My older np8662 doesn't have this feature and i am actually trying to figure out ways to get my fan to run 100%. I easily get my system to reach 92C only to downclock to a lower speed to manage temps despite having a powerful laptop cooler already, and having high temps occasionally lead to crashes before saving the files. I for one would rather max out my fan and have a spare one handy just in case it fails.

Are you positive air is circulating fine (no dust clogging vents and fans) and the GPU doesn't need to be repasted?

Yeah, repaste and a re-application of thermal pads, but the two systems have VERY different heatsink styles.
Is it worth forcing max fan speeds?
