    Is my 9170 underperforming?

    3DMark score P5891

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor,CLEVO P170EM score: P5891 3DMarks

Started to notice problems when I tried playing Sleeping Dogs and literally couldn't manage a playable framerate unless I turned shadows off and turned AA to normal (instead of Extreme). I know the chart on 3dmark says 800+ other tests have landed in this range, but everything seems slow. The fan seems to be working overtime. Not sure what to think.

As it should, during heavy load. But otherwise that would be a valid concern. What driver version are you using? Often times this will affect the rating/performance.

I mean "working overtime" as in it's still working hard well after any graphics-intensive programs are closed. Sitting here 20 minutes after doing the benchmark, browsing the internet, and the fan is still blowing off and on. Seemingly no rhyme or reason.

And I've run the test with the 314.07 and 314.14 drivers. Both yield the same results; neither improve game performance at all.

edit: Just opened a new tab in Chrome and the fan started whirring again. Comp seems warm. Even basic windows applications seem kind of sludgy.

The fan keeps spinning after a game. You have to open a program like nvidia inspector or MSI afterburner, wait till the fan goes off and then close the program. Its a BIOS issue with all 150/170EMs

Thanks for the suggestion guys, I'll try Nvidia Inspector out.

I'm still convinced my computer is underperforming, however. I expect a computer with my specs to be able to play Sleeping Dogs with shadows on.

well I always play without AA because it absolutely kills frames try without AA or on lowest setting. your 3dmark score looks about right. have you tried overclocking?

Use MSI afterburner or NVinspector to check the FPS you are getting. And verify if your GPU is running at 99% load, and the frequency of the core and memory is at the appropriate level.

The 680m can run with shadows on, but not on Ultra setting. My BF3 settings have everything set on ultra, shadows at Medium, AA Deferred to OFF, AA Post to High, and AF to 8X. 680m is a powerful card, but not as powerful as we like to believe. It's not a desktop GTX 680.

Also, when is the last time you do a virus/malware scan? You may want to considered running advancecare sweep.

If those doesn't work, reformat the computer and do a fresh install. Good luck to you.

i get ~34° on idle and between 78 and 86° whilst gaming

And yes like benduru said, you cant just use the highest settings and max ultra AA and expect playable frames, heck you cant even do that with SLI 680ms
