UPDATED for Quadzilla because he was making fun of my terrible resolution on my iPhone :p

I bought a laptop off one of the forum members and so far the performance and temperatures have held true to the Sager name. I do, however, have one issue that is bothering me, the screen. I own a beast of a desktop with 3 24 inch LED Samsung XL2370 monitors that are BRIGHT and gorgeous. My other laptop is a 17 inch i7 Macbook Pro with LED screen and it is bright and gorgeous. The Sager however is looking pretty dull in comparison to the two and I know that it is supposed to be a LED screen, but at the highest brightness my eyes are straining to read the screen. One thing I immediately noticed is the colors are bland and washed out compared to my Macbook. If you look at the screenshot comparing the two the stroller on the macbook pro looks Brown and Olive like it should and on my Sager it looks like a washed out Brown and a light olive (Dull though).

Here is them side by side with my shutter speed a little higher. (notice the fidelity of the MacBook versus the Sager. Looks sort of dull, no?)

Close up of the Macbook on the Target site.

Sager close up of the Target site (Notice how it is not popping with the the white and the screen looks like it has a haze over it)

Raised the shutter speed to lower the glare of the bright screens. I think this shows exactly what I mean when you look at the two screens side by side.

Sager Closeup for Color reproduction. I have not done any calibration to the screen.

The Mac Close up for Color reproduction. Again no calibration of the Mac screen.

At first I thought I was insane but my wife who is practically blind agree's that the Sager's brightness is not that bright and it almost seems like there is a haze on it.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Here are some comparison screen shots.

Those pics dont look like the brightness is turned up all the way ?...

What model screen do you have since the Hannstar screens are rated very good for a standard laptop LED screen ... They are no RGB LED or even Macbook screen but still very good as i have owned a few and im sitting on a 30inch 3008WFP 2560x1600 screen so im fairly picky ... Go into the device manager and under monitors it should be your Default monitor you double click then click on the details tab and in there click on hardware id..

ASUS G73Jh: Today's Top Gaming Laptop - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News

G73 is using the same exact screen and you can see from Anandtech they think highly of it but admit it is not the brightest.... Your pics are sorta rough though ;) ...

it says generic PNP monitor but under hardware ID it says HSD06A5.

As far as you saying it doesn't look like it's turned all the way up I agree. I am racking my brain trying to figure out if I have some sort of power saver mode on, but I checked power options and I have it set to high performance and in the taskbar I have it set to normal mode.

Kind of obvious but when you left click on the AC icon it should immediately show an option to adjust screen brightness. If its not there maybe you need to reinstall your display drivers? Maybe go to "More power options", "Adjust plan settings" in your high performance and you should see an option to turn it up more. I had this same problem once and I just reinstalled my display drivers.

    calibrate your screen.

Colour vibrancy most of the time have to do with how you calibrate your screen, OS X does auto calibration, but not so with windows. I don't really like the colours of my screen at first as well until I've calibrated my screen, colour preference is a very personal and subjective thing.

I don't think how dim that screen is will be helped by color calibration. When I had this same problem calibration only made the contrast of colors pop more to make it easier to read but didnt help the dimness of the screen. IDK though, I'm not sure this is the same problem, maybe it is just a bad screen and not what I had (bad driver install).

I agree and don't believe that calibrating with help with a dim screen. My question is do you guys see what I'm seeing or are my eye's giving out or something?

I did check the power setting and brightness in there and yes it was all the way up.

I owned the G73jh for about a week before this and the screen popped on that computer.

Well its the same screen as the G73 so im not sure what to say man...

Without seeing it in person i could not say one way or another but i will say that the screen is very nice but i also hope you realize that the Macbook screen is in a different league and the whites on the Macbook screens are VERY white.... I have owned a couple macbooks as well :)...

Beyond adjusting your Brightness FN+ keys and adjusting color saturation in the ATI control panel it just might be the way the screen is ...

Get an HP 8740 with an IPS screen if you want the absolute best notebook screen out there.

I have actually heard about that display and heard it is unreal.

Can you buy better screens for the Sager?

Hmmm I have a friend with a similar MBP. I remember the screens being very similar. My brother and I own the exact same notebook and our screens are a little different, his is more yellow, while mine is more purple when viewing whites. It's common for screens to be a little different. If you think it's too dim that may be an issue. I'll borrow my friends MBP and compare then give you my opinion.

I went to Best Buy and compared this screen to the Best buy's G73jh and it is so much more dim. I'm going to request and RMA with Sager. Hopefully this will help and maybe something is wrong with my screen or default settings.

Maybe it has something to do with it being 16:9 and comparing to 16:10.
but whats dumb about that is that logically then it should be brighter because the backlight gets diffused vertically.

Its not so much personal preference as it is er... biological. Meaning from person to person, the deep colors they can see actually varies (as well as subtle colors IMO)

In the Nvidia control panel there is option for colors and digital Vibrance.I am thinking that you don't have the 'Digital Vibrance' to more than 60.I had similar images before and now it looks awesome.

    Does Fn+F9 help with brightness?
