Here is my build, I am a novice with computers. The only hardware that I upgraded from the standard is the CPU. I heard that I can upgrade RAM later. However, I was wondering if I should also upgrade my screen from 1600x900 to 15.6" FULL HD (1920X1080) LED LCD ? And lastly does this build make any sense in general?
edit: how much does the laptop weigh?

I just looked at the screens apparently the (1600 x 900) is Matte and the (1920X1080) is Glossy. The Glossy screen has a higher resolution so everything will look much better and sharper on it. http://www.batterysupport.com/ has a good description on the difference between Matte and Glossy I paraphrased it below so it applies to your situation
" 1. Determine where you will be using your laptop most.
Why? Because matte and glossy finish behave very differently depending on which environment you are in. A glossy Screen is highly reflective of bright lights and high-contrast backgrounds, which may greatly disrupt your viewing experience. However, matte screens produce a more diffuse glare which is can be very problematic in outdoor areas.
2. Determine how you will be using your laptop, and what is important.
Depending on the Screen finish you choose, the vibrancy of the colors as well as the richness and variety of the tones will differ in between a glossy and matte screen. Thus a glossy screen will output higher levels of vibrancy whereas a matte screen tends make the display look more dull. That being said, a glossy Display Panel often exaggerates the richness in color (and sometimes beauty) of the original document. For that reason, I recommend a matte screen for photographers and designers who's focus is on the output of the computer.
3. glossy/matte - Ups and Downs.
Ups: Very rich and vibrant colors, better for outdoor laptop use, blacker blacks, WOW factor for good looks.
Downs: Very reflective in certain environments especially in office or other settings where there are lamps and lights placed within the reflected area, attracts fingerprints, hard to position to avoid reflections, hard to accurately edit photography and film
4. matte/glossy- Ups and Downs.
Ups: Much better for indoor use, easier on the eyes, accurately displays how your photo/film/design should appear
Downs: Less luminosity and color vibrancy, poor outdoor performance, lower contrast"

BTW what will be the purpose of you're new computer? -
Like all college students, I plan to use this laptop as a very expensive typewriter and web browser for checking facebook.
I want to use it to get work done. As to what type of work, I am not sure. But I want something powerful just in case I need it. Some applications that I will be using:
1. photoshop
2. blender
3. watching videos
4. windows chess
5. minesweeper
6. MS word
7. ???
edit: thanks for the response I didn't know that the FHD was glossy. I think I would prefer matte? I am using a macbook right now, the screen feels very clean and neat. What kind of screen is that?
One concern that I have is, how heavy the laptop is? and Can I upgrade the hardrive to an SSD later? -
Macbooks use a glossy screen. Most people on here tend to favour the matte screens but it is subjective and comes down to personal preference if you want the glossy I say go for it but you might wanna check out this thread first http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...-between-different-screen-options-photos.html
I don’t think it’s that heavy only 5.73 LBs with Battery Pack but I don’t own the system so I can’t say for sure how it feels and yes, you can upgrade the SSD in the future. You’re configuration should handle the requirements you stated but you might want to increase the RAM to 8GB if you plan on doing serious 3D modelling in Blender. You might be able to make some better upgrades if you want to future proof it but that depends on how much budget you have. -
Thanks a lot for the input. I went ahead and ordered the better screen, since the other upgrades, I can do it myself.

i would add if 1920X1080 isn't your forte get the 1600x900 matte. i would have loved to get the matte screen but the extra money wasn't worth it to me, and often i'm in a suitable environment where glossy won't diminish the screen much. i am glad i did upgrade to 1920x1080 from 1366x768 though. 1920x1080 scales very well at most lower resolutions, especially when i play my nes/snes roms in windowed screens. i actually use 1600x900 as my main resolution and i have to say, it's almost like it's the native resolution. just almost though. 16x9 matte would've been perfect for me.
Is my build any good?
