I am thinking about purchasing the NP8130 with the i7 2.4ghz processor and 8 gig dual channel DDRsDram at 1600mhz,

IS NOW THE TIME TO BUY?? Or is there a newer model around the corner/better hardware coming very soon?

Also is this system worth it over the NP5165 with the same processor/ram just the upgraded graphics card?

Well there's always some new hardware just around the corner of course :) But we're talking Q1-Q2 of 2012.

But there are some really good deals right now, and there will probably be some more closer to the holidays. If you need a computer now, I would definitely suggest buying now, but if you can hold off for a while, it may not be a bad idea.

I remember reading that the new Sager/Clevo models offer Optimus and back-lit keyboards. As for hardware, they'll support Ivy Bridge, the Sandy Bridge die shrink. It'll be a bit faster and primarily consume less power. Of course, new graphics cards are somewhere in the mix as well.

It's up to you whether you really need the switchable graphics, lower power consumption, or back-lit keyboard. If this was a new architecture like Haswell coming instead of just a better Sandy Bridge, I would wait then. Alas, Haswell is for 2013.

If you can wait 4 months! then wait, its def worth the wait, but be ready to pay a premium, i usually buy hardware thats been in the market for 3 to 6 months atleast so they are tested and the prices are down and can get great deals! hey but thats just me ! :)

    That's what I do too. :D

I don't like paying the first-wave, leading-edge adopter premiums and dealing with the potential, small though it may be, for initial driver, firmware, or bios issues. I like buying top-quality stuff the moment they start dropping in price too. :)

FYI, they all have holiday price guarantees till 2012 starts for NBR members. As for promos, maybe see what Christmas-time brings?

You should get concrete numbers for your target configuration from the reseller websites first. Then you'll have an easier time pitting them against each other in competition for your business. :D
