    as I want a 15inch gaming laptop...or is something new around the corner...looks like a heck of a deal, even with the 9800GTS. Opinions welcomed.

    New models won't be available any earlier than Q2 next year. I'd say now is a good time to get one.

    I'm waiting until 2009 2Q. Of course, I'm not in urgent need, and don't even have thr cash on hand. But I'll probably end up picking up a NP8660 (now as an old model) for a significantly cheaper price.

    That's the thing, there's always something around the corner...so I guess it comes down to price/performance, and it seems they've lowered the NP8660 at Xotic and elsewhere. The 5797 looks sweet, but way above what I will spend. I would much rather a good deal go obsolete...easier to swallow :D :D

    Now's a good time I think. You could also wait until the new models are released and then pick up the NP8660 then as they will be phasing out all the older models for cheaper (ie NP5793).

    Never ever wait to buy because technology is always changing and no matter when you buy (new or not) there is always something down the road that's going to come out in 2-3 months

    So why do you even bother buying a laptop if you acknowledge that fact and still ask if now is the time to buy?

    You get a laptop to justify your needs. Not to get 15 minutes of fame glouting to your friends. That comes secondary. :) And with the m860tu, I guarantee you that you'll be doing that for 2009. 2010, not so much gloating, but in practical terms, this laptop is good til 2012.
