    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has or will be testing the GTX 280m with the N9262.

Also, if anyone knows a technical reason why they won't be compatible, that would be nice to know too.

If they are compatible, how much is the GTX280M board selling for right now compared to the 9800m GTX.

Thank you all for any information.

    Thanks,
    FTC_OSIRIS

I do know a brand new GTX 280m is cheaper than a New 9800m GTX

Single GTX 280M should work, but sli is impossible. Sli 8800M GTX or 9800M GTX is still better than a single GTX 280M.

Although the thermal and power requirements are the same as the 9800m GTX, the 280 likely won''t work without an updated BIOS from Clevo/Sager.

And it's unlikely that Clevo will ever provide a BIOS that will enable the 280m on the 9262. Clevo wants you to buy a new computer. Nothing personal, just business. Clevo doesn't mke any money from customers that buy new nVidia cards, it makes money from customers buying new Clevo chasis/motherboards.

So basically, if you want the 280m you will have to pay for one of Clevo's new machines.

The 280M can be made to work, but the main problem is the MXM 2.1 version (9262) of the 280M does not have an SLI connector, so at best you can run a single 280M which will lag behind a 8800GTX SLI or 9800GTX SLI config.

If you can put 2 video cards in without SLI, it is stll not a waste. It can be used for multiple views or to run CUDA programs.

We are talking primarily about gaming here, and in that context, it is a waste.

If you want to blow that kind of money upgrading for poorer gaming performance for
CUDA and screen flexibility, go for it.

The D901C, GPU expansion wise, is dead.

Not necessarily true. A 280m give about 1.5 more performance then a single 9800m gtx. In practice if one uses two 9800m gtx in sli it will get about the same improvement in performance. The only case were it would be better to have 2 9800 would be for using one for Physx, but in the same time one could use one 9800 for physx and the 280m for the rest.

The problems of the user Fenzo might still be with the motherboard of the laptop and not with the putting the 280m card inside the D901C.

So true about the wanting your money part. And you know what the sad part about this is? Just a little over a year ago is when I bought my NP9262 new, and if I want an upgrade now I have to buy another new laptop? Who can really afford to do that? And it wouldn't be so bad but trying to go with SLi in my NP9262 would cost me almost half of what a new laptop cost for a second 9800 m GTX.
