I'm currently debating on whether or not to pay the 40 dollars for the IC Diamond Thermal Paste option. Is it really necessary or will the laptop function fine without it? I plan to have a 2630QM and a 6990M in this machine.

Also, another quick question. On Malibals website, the checkbox for "$100 off configurations over $1500" is still there, but it doesn't subtract the 100 dollars off the price like it used to. Did they change something or do they not offer that promotion anymore?

It's still offered. However, I think they changed it so that it "will be applied during checkout" instead of being visible on the configuration page. I think this is better, as it is clearer what the original price of the machine is and whether you have crossed the necessary threshold for applying the discount.

As for the IC7, I wouldn't say that it is mandatory, but it certainly could help prolong the life of your graphics card if you have one of the more powerful cards like the 6990M which can run pretty hot. I'm repasting it with MX-4 paste myself after I receive mine, as it is much cheaper that way ($10 total for paste and some isopropyl alcohol).

def recommend for 6990M , not so much for intel. so its worth it to pay $40 for both since 6990M can get a lil hot. buy that and get a decent cooler then it should keep ur machine cool!
