Haven't heard much about the M980U, its been pretty quiet, whats going on? And anyone know if the chassis of the M98 is made out of something special? Or is it the same plastic material as the 9262 with a glossy finish?

The Alienware M17x looks very nice and it seems that they finally have a solid built laptop, but I don't know, after the M15x I don't trust AW one bit. The customer service (from my experience the CSR's were very ignorant and lied to me too many times, but I heard Dell took over customer service), and the M15x build was horrible, weak chassis, downclocking issues, overheating issues etc... The old area 51 9750 had lots of issues also, and the M17 looks like a very cheap built system (the whitebook got discontinued, dunno why).

Hence that is why I am waiting for the M98U, clevo always seems to build solid systems and I bought from xoticpc before and it was a pleasant experience for me. So guys, whats up with the M98? Think the chassis could be better than the AW m17x? As thats the only thing I see the m17x trumping the M98, andonized aluminum.. MMMMM yummy.

Gophn, you think the M98 will come out with a chassis comparable to the M17x? Also I read a post that you were going to E3, did you go and if you did, how did the chassis of the M17x feel? Did the build feel solid? And not a cheap chassis like the M15x?

    I was there.

the new M17x chassis is pretty solid (like the previous M17x)... good design.

no word on cooling, but it should be good in a 17" environment.

the M980NU seems to have positive feedback on build quality as well.

both systems are pretty much identical in specs, just one is 17" and the other is 18.4"

Chaz was also there and already posted his mini review of the system in the "News and Reviews"

what is the chassis made of on the M98? Is it the normal plastic like material with a glossy coat finish?

hard plastic, like other high-end Clevo's... with gloss over the surface.

Gophn, you think it will make that much of a difference in terms of helping the system deal with heat better and making the system more durable? Having andonized aluminum compared to hard plastic?

the internal thermal design is much more important if we are talking about cooling to the powerful components... not the exterior as much.

the .Macbook's are a great example... aluminum body, but still has heating issues since the system is very slim and does not have enough cooling with even a mid-range videocard.
