    The cores run at the same clock speed. Use task manager to check useage.

    say, do you mean that if 1 core clocks in at 2.66 gigahertz ... that all 4 or 8 cores runs at that same speed ???

    and none of them 4 or 8 cores each run at their own individual speeds ???

    correct.

    all cores are throttled to the same speed.... even if their load is different.

    like if Core 0 has 50% load, which Core 1 is showing 14% load.... both cores will still be running the same speed.

    RMclock and CPUGenie will show you this.

    CPU-Z is mainly for monitoring or info gathering use.

    CPUGenie, like RMclock, is useful for monitoring and underclocking

    Not to get off topic, but I was reading somewhere that the i7 has the ability to under/over clock a core if the others are not being used. Is this true?

    IIRC, it is true. I think the people at anandtech played with this feature. Check-out their Core i7 review.

    Processors being able to downclock the cores not currently in use would make sense when thinking about the power usage of laptops.
