The GPU is making the fan spin constantly, and that bothers me a lot especially when I am working on my essays. Fn+3 won't cut it as my ears are sensitive. Cooler won't be an option either as it only helps few degrees. So is there anything else I can do? Like disabling the GPU? under voltage? etc. Any crazy ideas are welcome. ;)

    Replace the thermal paste.
If you're using vista set your power mode to balanced or power saver.

    My best guess :p

a driver which has powermizer working will help. It will downclock the gpu when in 2D mode. My idle temperature is 39 C ish with powermizer.

and I think you can undervolt using bios flash, and choose to undervolt only in 2D mode and not 3D.. but I dont know how this works, I just remember that I read it somewhere on here ^^

flash it with the BIOS of an 8200m or something, and then run that in 2D mode. hopefully, it'll then run on only 8 stream processors, and at very low clocks - which should be cool enough to not kick in the fan.

of course, if my theory doesn't work out... congratulations. you've just bricked your GPU :)

Nirvana: even if you set the gpu to 2D mode the fans will kick but if they bother you so much you can always remove them or unplug their cable :)
but then i'm sure that other thing will bother you like burned GPU
just buy your self ears corks

You should be grateful that it's idling below 50C. Just look at all of those AW people :p

But as for making the card colder... About all I can think of suggesting without opening up the machine is enabling powermizer, and checking in RivaTuner to see if the card has successfully downclocked. That should knock off 5 degrees or so. It might be enough to not cause the GPU fan to enable.

What notebook do you have? I don't see anything wrong with those GPU temps. My 9262 idles around 41 C without running the fan on high speed.
Are you saying that your fan is running at high speed all of the time and you are still getting those temps? What temps do you get when the fan is not running at high speed?

ok nirvana, i tried quite a few things but the gpu fan will only stay off for about 2 to 5 minutes then cycles back on low...but it doesn't do the high low bit. it's steady low speed.

5793. No, my fan is running at auto mode/low speed, but it keeps going on and off and that annoys me. I actually looking a way to turn it on/off manually.
    Thank you johnsss. :)

Little stupid things? You can't be serious. Imagine a fly flying around your ears that's how annoying the my fan is. And I do have 14 other laptops at home but I can't just jump on them since I have all my files and hundreds of apps installed on my 5793, a completely system switching would be extremely time consuming for me. So, until you own a 5793 or have something constructive to say, otherwise, STFU.

mine does go on-off, but not too often as I use a zalman cooler. It's idling at 47C at the moment, but that's mainly because powermizer is off so it's running at full 3d clocks

"chiming in" mine idles at 41 with cooler, but that still does not stop it from the low-medium to low stuff. i never even notice it really because i have allot of stuff going on, but when i got it in a real quiet place....that's when i notice...
