I can order more from Clevo, the stock is not a problem. I don't know if your bank can accept feeding the bank transfer by a credit card, ask them.

    Hey Pkhetan,

I was debating getting an M17x R2 and throwing a 6970m in there. Do you know if it matters if I get one that already has an Nvidia card in there or an ATI card? Or are the mobos / chassis the same?

    Thanks.

For Clevo notebooks, you can switch between ATI & NVIDIA (you might need BIOS update sometimes)
For Alienware notebooks, I have no idea, try asking in Alienware section

    Pretty sure you can't...

Aren't the mobos different? That's why nVidia cards are listed as user upgradeable on reseller sites, and the AMD cards aren't.

Yeah, that's a perfect explanation. You definitely cannot switch between AMD and nVidia GPUs.

Yea, yea you can.. We've swapped out the GPU's plenty of times between nV and AMD and as long as you have the right heatsinks etc, it works just fine. I'm pretty sure that was back when the 6970's came out and there was a whole different heatsink setup for them (still is) but besides that everything else is the same.

Also we can get you 485m's in either laptops or by themselves also.

Mythlogic is correct you can swap out different VGA between nVidia and AMD GPU's.

The caveat is though that on SOME Setups you will also need to change the display as it may give some distortion. For example a P170HMA will require the same type of LCD as from a P170HM to work correctly. It still works just has a bit of distortion, that is all.
