I was looking at various companies and their warranty coverage. XoticPC's warranty was OK but I didn't like that I would have to pay the shipping to them, and the battery/some other parts were only covered for one year.
Eurocom's warranty is even worse, it doesnt cover keyboard/battery/cd-rom drive past one year (6 months for the battery). This angers me because I had to replace each of those parts on my old laptop and want them to be covered under warranty.
So what are the various ways I could cover my entire laptop (parts included) for 3 years?

Most companies have a 3 year accidental warranty which pretty much covers everything, including dropping your laptop or such.
Or you could ensure it at an Insurance company, Shyster1 and Paladin44 have more info on this. -
Umm, You can buy the 3 year warranty, parts and labor from Xotic PC, which gives you the 3 year warranty through sager also. Which means that sager pays 3 day shipping to and from. So you dont pay shipping. Any sager laptop you buy at Xotic or PNB is covered by their warranty and Sager's warranty which includes 3 day shipping both ways.

Have you gone through the details of the repairmaster coverage (third party service contract) that you can get from either Powernotebooks or RJTech?
Also, I suppose that you could always try to negotiate a custom warranty coverage with a particular reseller by offering to pay an additional fee for the extra warranty coverage. -
Bump for solution.

also look towards www.safeware.com ... it will help even cover accidental.
-
This is a question that plagues m as well. I noticed on xoticpc.com that full accidental coverage is advertised, but only LCD accidental is offered on the drop down box when i ordered my 5796. I'm still in the market for full accidental for 3 years, but I really dont want to dish out more than 300 or so. I even had a thread about it once upon a time.

SafeWare.com is the one that PowerNotebooks usually mentions. I remember reading that you can purchase it annually, and that it will even cover theft. Never used it myself though.
-
I will probably call them for a quote. Hopefully they offer it to Canadians as well. BTW with safeware...how do they get the parts to replace my particular laptop? If I could get some help here so I can try to confirm what they tell me over the phone.
Does anybody recommend using your insurance company to cover it? or has had experience doing so? -

1. www.Safeware.com does not provide coverage in Canada. For US buyers the advantage of Safeware is that the policy is underwritten by an A.M. Best "A" rated insurance company, and they also provide theft coverage. Also, you can request that your laptop is repaired by the OEM instead of some 3rd party service provider that would have difficulty getting parts, and does not have factory trained technicians.
2. It is highly unlikely you will find any laptop warranty that will cover the battery and AC Adapter for more than one year...as you have seen some only have 6 months coverage.
3. We do not use a 3rd party carrier for our 3 Year Parts and Labor warranty. Any repairs are done in the same factory that originally built your laptop using factory parts and factory trained technicians. Over the years we have found 3rd party carriers to be horribly unreliable. -
Sorry for the semi-hijack, but what is PNB's policy on aftermarket warranty upgrades Donald? For instance, say you start with the standard 1 parts/3 labor warranty, but in the first year, your equipment has a lot of malfunctions. Would you allow an upgrade to 3 parts / 3 labor within the first year?

Assuming you are talking about the Sager warranty, you have 90 days from your original ship date to purchase the Sager 2 or 3 year warranty.
-
Ah, thanks a lot for the prompt response Donald. I think 90 days should be plenty for my indecisive mind to be abe to decide whether or not I need the 3 years =P
-
So the question begs.. Why not safeware?
Well, yes they cover theft,
yes they cover accidental
But have you priced them for 3 years?
600 is a bit too much.
I had my iphone insured for accidental thru squaretrade.com
and when the unthinkable ran over my iphone multiple times, squaretrade promptly responded.
Ive priced with them for around 300 for 3yrs with accidental but no theft but doing that thru homeowners
guess thats two options -

You would have to be insuring over $3,300 for it to cost $600 for 3 year's coverage at Safeware.com, and there is no deductible like there would be with your home owner's or renter's policy. You also don't have to buy 3 years all at once...just buy it one year at a time.
You can get a quote by going to http://www.safeware.com/GetaQuote.aspx -
what different between sager cover vs the the seller cover(ex. Powernotebooks, xoticpc.com
-
I hate to admit it, but paladin44 was right. Its worth the premium without deductables. So when the good ol laptop finally kicks the bucket ill be covered.
Buying insurance soon.... -
PNB/xotic offer free next business day shipping, Sager offers 3-day.
Also 24/7 phone tech support as opposed to 9-5 Mon-Fri.
Not sure what else.
Is there anyway I can cover my whole laptop for 3 years?
