Is there likely to be a P870TM-G replacement this year ?

I'm getting a new desktop replacement Laptop this year, my plan was for ~October, however Metabox has a special on the Hexacores at the moment. Should I get that now or is there likely to be a better version out by Q4 this year ?

Cannon Lake & Whiskey Lake are speculated for the second half of this year. There's scuttlebutt about NVidia Volta, but not much that's official as far as release.

Now is a pretty good time to buy unless you want to hold out for Ice Lake in 2019.

Thanks, that matches up with what I'd guessed based on the release announcements for CPUs/GPUs but wanted to check if there was anything floating on the Clevo horizon.

I'm guessing there's a long enough lag between Cannon Lake & Whiskey Lake being technically launched and the next Clevo revision that it would probably push into 2019 ?

I don't really want to wait until next year unless it's very early next year (~Q1) or there's a major performance increase (I guess this is actually potentially possible with the Spectre/Meltdown mitigations being on the chip now )

Those patches don't tend to impact gaming too much.

I haven't heard anything "official" by any entities. However, in my experience. If you wait for the next bigger, better, more advanced you will always be waiting. Since they are alway releasing newer things on a fairly regular basis.

You mean C246 chipset. It's already there, but looks like no one really cares about it as it doesn't bring anything new to the table:

A refresh on the body might be cool. I, personally, like the chassis, but something different would be nice. other then that, maybe a fourth fan.

The C series chipsets are basically for xeon/ECC support these days.

Can never have too much cooling. Though a fourth fan might push it over the "too noisy" line if not managed carefully.

Especially with the current placement of a smaller fan slot with a different pitch to the rest. To fit 4 large size fans though would be a big redesign.
