I just ran 3D Mark 11 (Free Version) this morning on my 8150 w/6990 and 2670QM. The max temps were 84 C for the CPU and 81 C for the GPU. Just repasted last night with AC5. Also the score was around 3550. Anything look out of the norm?

Also is there a thread that links temps and benchmarks for 6990 in the 8150?

    Thanks.

Your score and GPU temps look spot on. 84C for the CPU is kinda high though. I'd suggest doing a repaste with those temps.
Ideally you dont want CPU temps to go paste 65-70C max. GPU temps in the mid 80C are good.

Make sure you're using the computer on a flat surface to allow proper all flow through the bottom vents.

Thanks for the reply...I was thinking that, that was a little high for the CPU. Idling/normal usage is between 35 and 45 C. I'll prob run the test a couple of more times to see if the first time it was ran showed true results. Any other free benchmarks you can recommend that would also stress the machine?

Also, I installed a new HD and Windows 7.....and the drivers. Now everything works as should except I have a icon on my desktop that is in the shape of a lock. I can't find the program under CCleaner to remove it. How is the proper way to unistall it? Also I clicked on it, to see what its for and it says something like I'm not authorized of have access to it. Would you know why?

84c on CPU is kinda high but it's not unreasonable temp since it's full load. Your best bet is reapplying thermal paste and make sure that heatsink is set on CPU's die properly.

Shape of a lock on a fresh windows installation? Never seen that before.

I noticed the heatsink uses spring type screws.....I removed it going in reverse order, than placed it going in order. anything else I need to do? I do notice the screws do not screw in flush but I tightened them as much as I could without using crazy force.....thinking of picking up some IC7 from a microcenter for $7 and using it on the CPU. I would rather not redo the GPU if not need be. I know AS5 takes 200 hours to cure.

Just be gentle with the stuff. And don't use too much thermal paste. A tiny drop on die will do the job. That's the heat source anyway. Thermal paste on any other idea would be waste.

And too much thermal paste can cause high temps too. You want just the right amount, not too much, not too little. Put about a pea size amount on there and let the heatsink spread it out by its own pressure.

Not sure what that lock is, maybe its a reminder to activate Windows?

I think I know what the lock is. My 7280 came with a folder on the desktop with a lock on it. It lets you hide files in the folder and it requires either a password or a fingerprint scan to open. I don't have my 7280 with me at the moment so I don't remember exactly what it is called.

Going off the top of my head, I think it is called the "Protector Suite".

Yeah that sounds like thats it. I have not set up my finger reader.....so that maybe why I can't utilize it or access it.

The pea method isn't recommended for AS5 on mobile i7 CPU's. Their website specifically says to do surface spread. (Most likely this is because the mobile chipsets aren't square, so coverage wouldn't be very good that way.

Yeah, the lock is part of the fingerprint reader software. Gwilled was correct on that. It is annoying that you can't just delete the icon though, as you have to completely uninstall the software to remove it.
