I just started having issues with the express card slot on my Sager 5793. I have the Creative Labs X-Fi Audio Notebook card. It was working fine this morning then after I rebooted, Vista 64 is not recognizing the card. Even when I unplug the card and insert it back in, the OS does not recognize the hardware when it is inserted. I even uninstalled all the Creative Labs software that came with the card but no changes. Anyone know how to get this working?

The card fits in the slot on the right hand side of the laptop, right next to the 2 USB ports.

Anyone know where I can check for the settings in Device Manager? I'm not sure what exactly to look for as I dont see any Express Card/54 entries in DM.

When plugging in my USB sound card after having used the normal speakers, it takes a few seconds for the laptop to recognize the card and use that for sounds.
I sugest waiting for it, and if for some reason it gives you the "new hardware found" reinstall the driver .
If it`s a repeating thing, I sugest reinstalling again, but make sure you use CCleaner after uninstalling, to remove leftover drivers.

The whole issue is that Vista is not popping up with the "New Hardware Found" message. It did this when I originally installed the card but after removing the drivers from the new issue, Vista no longer recognizes the card when I insert it... I know the slot itself works, or at least has power since the blue light on the card turns on. I'm at a total loss now... I cant go back to the normal sound on the laptop.

    I know what you mean.
Try a restart after putting the card back.Should load all drivers regularly.
Also make sure the creative drivers are set to start at startup
Vista orb, Run, type msconfig, the go to startup and see if the creative drivers are set to load.(it`s not about the functionality, but the sound manager)

Cool, thanks for the help. For some reason the creative SB driver wasnt loaded... No idea how that happened. But all is well again in gaming land. Time to load up Age of Conan and see how it is.

Well, Prasad, you can use a Sound card in there as @Tripfist does, or the remote controller that came with the laptop for Media Center(if that free offer is still being used).
I got this express remote controller that fits in the express card and works nicely for the media center integrated in Vista.
I`d love to have a tv tuner and see if it works with it also...
Although the buttons are different,it looks like this : http://www.smk.co.jp/whatsnew_j/images/783fc.gif

Geez, spoke too soon. I reinstalled my software/drivers for the card and its back to the same old thing after the reboot.. Vista doesnt recognize the ExpressCard slot again. Now I'm at a complete loss.

    Woow, what?
Ok,uninstall driver, use CCleaner to remove leftovers, power off the laptop, make sure the card is inside, and then turn it on.Install the drivers again and that should fix it.
