Greetings Everyone,
After doing some research on this forum about possibly upgrading my old 180w PSU to a 240w one, I bought these two items:
240w PSU:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Flextronics-AC-Adapter-240W-AC-Adapter-GA240PE1-00-FHMD4-19-5V-PA-9E/233219132046?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649
7.4mm to 5.5mm converter:

The issue that I have now is that eventually, power to the PSU cuts off whenever I play any games that are CPU/GPU intensive. Without the battery inserted this of course shuts the laptop off. Unplugging the PSU from the wall and reinserting it restores power to the unit but it loses power again eventually.
I have a feeling that it might be the converter. Does anyone have any input on this?

Either 240W is not enough, or most likely given the price, it isn't a 240W PSU and its shutting down due to over-current or over-heating protection.

Some supplies can limit output if the centre pin is not grounding like it would in a dell.

@Meaker, I wonder if that could be the issue. I had a friend try the 240w PSU on their Area 51M laptop, works perfectly. Conversely, I tried one of their 180w PSUs with the converter on my laptop, works with no issues.

With mine I opened the case and soldered in my own cable, some designs that limit can then put a resistor to ground on the sense pin. Mine did not need it in the end.

Looks like the problem was indeed the PSU. I got another one sent to me this past Saturday and I've been testing it all week. It works like a charm.

It could just need that resistor mod to work with other systems. Depends on the design.
