    Hi all,

I just received my new Sager 8150 and I have a couple of concerns. First, the keyboard seems to be loose. It rattles when I type. Has anyone else had this issue with their 8150? I tightened the screws a bit last night and it helped, but the rattle is back this morning.

Also, the fan on the left side is buzzing. I don't mind the normal fan noise, but the buzzing makes me think there is an issue with the left fan, or maybe it is catching on something.

I did have my reseller apply thermal paste so I am concerned that maybe they didn't do such a good job reconnecting everything.

I'd appreciate any responses from people that have experience with this.

    Thanks!

It's so easy to open up, I would do that for starters.

It's the 3-4 screws on the big panel on the bottom of your laptop. Unscrew and remove them, and leave the panel loosely on the system. Turn it on. Put your computer in the mode to where it won't sleep when you close the lid, and flip it over.

Now carefully remove the lid, and remember, no metal objects in / around the system. Take a look with that lid off and see exactly where the noise is coming from.

If you become certain it's the fan, it might be easier to have them send you a replacement. It's right there. Also, this will give you a little look n' see around the computer. You'll see if a foreign piece of something somehow got in there when they repasted.

Otherwise, you're probably noting that there really isn't a whole lot they could have "hooked up wrong" -- it's pretty cleanly laid out inside there :)

As far as the keyboard vibrating, to check the screws on that, check this video out:
Sager NP8150 Keyboard Removal to access RAM DIMM's under keyboard - YouTube

You'll need to pop off that grill to check the 4 screws that hold the keyboard down. You need one of those screwdrivers to pop the panel off that you normally see people using to repair reading glasses. (Very slim n' small screwdriver).

Let us know what you find...

My 8150 has a noisy keyboard, too. I think it's just the design. I started typing jus t bit more softly and the noise went away. I've seen the same thing with other chicklet keyboards.

Let me know if the screw adjustment helps.

Thanks for the suggestions and advice. I did tighten down some of the screws around the cpu (or is it the gpu?) fan and the buzzing is at least quieter.

As far as the keyboard rattling, I've noticed that if I am hunting and pecking with my wrists totally off the laptop, it bangs and rattles very loudly, but if I have my hands/wrists on the palm wrests while typing, the rattle mostly goes away.

It is something I can work with, but I do feel that this is a pretty shoddy design, especially given how nice the finish is on the rest of the laptop.

I noticed something else, and I am curious if others have seen it. I upgraded to the 95% gamut matte screen and when I fired up my pixelbuddy application, I noticed that when the screen is showing a pure black, there is a faint white ghosting image on the left side of the screen going down vertically. It is around 2 to 3 inches wide and noticeable when the screen is completely black.

I used to be a Dell laptop technician and we would frequently have to replace the lcd panels when people would put too much pressure on the back of the screen around the dell logo. That white, ghostly image is similar to what I am experiencing here. I would not expect a new screen to have this issue, and I am worried that this is something that will progressively get worse and more noticeable, even when the screen is not completely black. (As it did on those dells).

Has anyone else noticed a screen issue like this with the 95% gamut matte?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice.

I purchased Sager NP8150 two months ago. Not a single issue or complaint. Fan is very quiet, its not even noticeable at MAX in room full of normal talking noise. Keyboard is not loose and making any rattling noise. I don't know what is causing your keyboard to act that way. And for 95% matte screen I do see a bit of ghosting red effect on black background when something brighter/lighter in color goes over the black background, there will be a trail of fading ghosting effect behind it that last for a second then returns back to complete black. I don't mind it because how often will you have a black background? Most of internet is white not black for example and etc. The ghosting effect does not happen during gaming for some reason, only during normal tasks outside of the gaming. Screen is amazing though.
