So, my Clevo M570RU (Sager NP5790) is at my house right now. I'm not.
I wanna ask what I should do with it? What to order, etc. I already ordered speakers, a wireless mouse/keyboard combo, a 360/PC controller, and Windows Media 2005 with remote. All for under $200![]()
I'll be running Linux for the next week until Windows comes.
I was thinking of getting a cooling pad, but decided against it because it wouldn't leave me enough left for the OS. Soooooooooo...
OMG OMG OMG You have no idea how awesome this is for me. Going from a low-end P4 with a low end nVidia 4 series card and 512mb 300MHz RAM, to a 2.2GHz C2D with a high end nVidia 9 series card and 2GB 667MHz RAM,. I can finally play Pacman!
Eh, I guess I'm just kinda bragging excitedly. I'll put up some pictures of unpacking it and such when I get home.
Oh yeah, so, my original intention of posting was to ask what to do with it? Optimizations, etc. I know that the speakers are **** unless I change some settings. Will that be possible in Linux? Or will my speakers not work at all![]()
How should I use it? Put the back end on books so that it's raised a bit and it can have better air flow? Damn, I'm excited.
And should I just legally download a copy of XP until my disc comes? So I won't have to screw around in Linux, you see.
Oooooooh boy. I'm happy![]()

But I believe Sager Notebook comes with nVidia 8 series -
linux should be fine until your os comes. It wont be the most friendly to you but it will work. Congratulations to your purchase of such a jump in tech.. I remember when i had a P4 2.0 and Geforce 4 mx card. it was such a drag compared to new technology.

I got the Clevo M570RU (says in my sig). That's the Sager NP5790.
I was thinking that I might wait a bit longer for 8 series. But I realized that the M570RU has everything at max out for this generation of technology, and I was at lowest level of two technological generations ago, so I thought "why not". Either way, I can still upgrade GPU and CPU -
Congrats dude
You should try testing out your graphics capability in Linux with Tux Racer -
DEFINITELY! I already have it installed on my partitioned old computer, but sadly I can't run it (it's a computer with PII, 4MB vRAM GPU, 128mb RAM, etc).
And I plan to attempt an install of Oblivion using WINE. -
Check out this database for wine tested applications/games.

Mine came yesterday! I am extremely pleased at the quality of service I got from xoticpc and the quality of the product. May our 5790s last us a long time! Cheers.
It Hath Come!
