The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

So 17 years later (half my life) here we are, at the end of the road.

I thought this was the most appropriate place for my farewell and story.

I was already a enthusiast before I joined, went to uni and got my first laptop. Had to take it apart and overclock it of course and posted up a review here! Gave the community a bit of a technical kick, I curated one of the first mobile GPU lists so you could actually tell what you were getting in the early days.

Had a break and got back into it with MXM-A and Acer machines, the 7738G with a 560M or 7700M and a QS9200 and 95% RGB 100Hz panel, I will always have a soft spot for that.

Then I got into my Clevo with the P150EM, was a sleek thing compared to the MSI I had.

Then Donald at Powernotebooks gave me the chance to earn some coin doing this after noticing someone else's brief stint and asking about it.

Once they shut down Sager were so welcoming, I have had a great time with them.

51000 posts later of a being a Rep this is the end.

Forums just seem to be coming to an end, I started on the likes of Rage3d and the 3dmark forums (RIP).

This forum has changed my life, the money saved from being on here helped me buy my house, it taught me how to be self employed as a contractor and motivated.

I wish all of you the best, and maybe we will bump into each other elsewhere out there on the web.

I'll be on here until the end, but wanted to put this up now so people had a chance to see it.

Yes, forums are shutting down. Reddit communities are dying as well. I really don't know where everyone is going.
I don't know if it's Google's algorithm for not promoting community content anymore or people just refuse to get informed on their purchases and the tech they buy.

Today's tech as etc jokebooks, tablets and mini (gaming) laptops is throw away garbage. Buy, it'll breaks and can't be fixed. Then the modern buyer run into the same purchase circle once again to get new trash. A never ending circle. Expensive Garbage as nowadays laptops is easy to find vs. desktop hardware for desktops. Why should they ask for help on tech forums when they just buy new?

They are definitely more interested. 2021 and 2022 saw a growth in laptop shipments. The number of laptop listings on retailer websites in the US has almost doubled since last year. I have all this data due to noteb.com.
What I have noticed is that smaller retailers have gone out of business during this pandemic. It's as if Amazon is now the one-stop place to buy anything and people don't care about any other online sources of information and purchase.

    @Meaker@Sager
From one of my first posts in 2008 whenever i was in trouble you was the first to advise and sort issues out for me.
so a massive thank you from me to you.
my P150EM is still going strong and must be coming upto 10 years old now and with a boot up of around 20 seconds thats not bad for its age as of new it was 11 seconds.

And to Andrew & Neil from @XMG UK its been a blast and with only needing 2 laptops from you in over 15 years thats saying something about Clevo.

    stay safe one and all.

Thank you Meaker - you've been a help to me and countless others here who love Sager notebooks (I'm buying another soon as 12th Gens come out).

Someone here has created a new forum at laptopforum.net - I don't know the person or if that new site will take off, but thought it worth mentioning.

So disappointing that the NBR forum owners decided to destroy the database rather than share it.

A huge thank you to jaybee83, Meaker, and many others here for all the help you provided me with my Clevo P751ZM. (I still have yet to sort out updating my graphics drivers... I really hate those things lol )

@jaybee83 – are you planning to copy over the opener to the Batman thread to the new forum? Or happy if anyone else does so? That first post alone contains a lot of good reference info.

There is still want more mod I want to do before we go dark.
    I want to change the N173HGE-E11 panel in P170SMA with a B173QTN01.5.
In theory, the B173QTN01.5 should be able to run with 2 eDP lanes 2560x1400 @ 60hz.
I tried to far unsuccessfully with 30 pin eDP to 40 pin eDP converters. Maybe someone else can help me.

The problem is the panel expects a number of input channels.

I wish it was that simple. When I tried it with the 30 to 40 pin converter, the AC adapter would behave as if the laptop is shorted. The pin converter would also end up with 2 of its lanes semi-burnt.

So it might plug into 3 but only has 2 active channels. So that's what I mean if the panel expects 3 channels then it could cause what you are seeing.

@jaybee83 Actually it looks like it shouldn't be necessary to repost any old threads due to the great archiving works being done by a few people here: https://efgxt.net/topic/104-notebook-review-forum-archive-–-nbrchive/
