After exactly one week of glorious use and great fun, my new 5760 is dead.

I turned it on this afternoon to find that it wouldn't boot up. If I plug in the power cord the orange battery and the green power cord light show up. When I turn the laptop on, the little sun light (power) and the time shows up. (Still keeps perfect time.) But nothing else happens, the LCD doesn't so much as flicker and the HD light turns on for about 10 seconds and never lights again.

I can hear the HD click a little bit when I first turn it on, and the CD drive spins up and down. But it just stays like that, doesn't do anything else.

I called sager tech support at powernotebooks and Matt had me purge the power, (hold power button with no source in it) AND take out each ram chip and try starting up with one. I even tried starting up without the optical drive and switching each ram chip between the slots. Nothing works.

My guess is it's processor went bottom up, or something in the motherboard. Either way I'll probably have to RMA it. Dang it... I just had it the way I wanted it.

I'm posting to ask if any of you have ever had a similar problem, and if there are any other options to try before I have to RMA the thing. Just breaks the heart...

It could be that you have your Audio DJ turned on in the front of your NP5760. It won't boot up if that switch is on. Make sure it is turned off and try again.

Left hand button? Which one is that? The far left one on the front panel? I have to hold it a moment but the DJ turns on. I get 00 0000. Then I hit the on/off far left button and it goes off. Still no boot.

Yes, that is the one. Well, if that doesn't solve it just wait for a Sager technician to call you tomorrow. Don't jump to the RMA yet, they may well be able to solve it on the phone for you.

If not, and they do want you to RMA it, ask them if you can keep your hard drive so all you have to do is put it back in when you get it back. If they want you to send it in with the laptop, just ask them not to format it unless they absolutely have to.

Also, make sure you ask for DOA policy. They will email you a Ground shipping label (usually the next day), and then ship it back to you via 2nd Day Air. If you want it to go faster than that, just ship it in to them yourself but still request the 2nd Day shipping on the return.

Kay, will do. It's still pretty saddening... I was going to take it to work with me tonight. Does yanking the HD affect the warenty any? I know tinkering with the CPU does.

Hmm, email labels. Makes me wish I had a printer. >.<

It does not void your Sager warranty to upgrade memory, hard drive or processor, but if you break anything while doing it whatever you broke will not be covered by warranty...but even that doesn't void a Sager warranty.

You must have a friend with a printer. Forward the email and have them print it. If not, go to a Kinkos, UPS Store, office supply or computer supply store or even *gag...cough* the library to print it off.

Yeah we've got a nice printer at work. What form is it in? A Jpeg, image, or the dreaded PDF that none of the computers at work can seem to display properly.

Well I'll keep my fingers crossed for some miracle-fix. I havn't made much headway since the thing wont even post. Eef... -_-

Okay, I got a call today from sager's factory, I think it was in Cali. Someone with an Indian sounding voice talked to me about it. After telling the symptoms he said it was probably the motherboard and told me to send it in with the printout mailing address he was going to send.

I told him I wanted to keep my HD, and he said that was ok. Another option was for them to swap it in the new laptop they were going to send.

That sent up a red flag, and he said they couldn't guarantee that the new laptop's screen wouldn't have dead pixels. I told them I wanted to keep the same LCD screen if it was salvageable because it had no dead pixels. He said that was okay too and logged it into the system. His name was David and i got the number to his factory.

The last thing I want is for it to come back with another problem, or dead pixels. >.< But, these things happen.

That would be David Liu I think.
He was the one that was helping me with my issue also.

They fixed my 5760 the same day they got it and had it shipped out the next day with 2nd Day Air.

    <edit>
**** it Paladin, you keep posting a couple minutes before me.

The sticker sent only covers 12 pnds, while the laptop in the box it came in weighs 17.5 pnds. I'm working that out right now.

My number one worry is that when I get it back I'll find dead pixels, heh. The second worry is if I get it back I'd find that the hard drive was fried too and it doesn't work either.

But... of course that would give me the opportunity to spring for larger HD. XD 80 gigs is a bit small since I filled half of it up in the first week, heh.

Oh well, these are the breaks. I'm working on it.

Alright, you guys don't mind if I blog here a bit? ^^ It releases the stress a bit.

Kay, I yanked the battery and HD, and got the whole package down lower than 12pnds, even tho on callback David said that the sticker would be fine even if it went over. I packed the thing up and sent it off to CA. *Waves* bye bye ! Hope you feel better soon!

There is something I can't explain tho. In my email, I got a UPS confirmation email shown as "Advance Replacement or an Return Shipping label has been Processed" yesterday. I hadn't sent anything at that time, and after further digging around, the tracking code inside consists of 3 parcels.

The first of the three, when clicked on, indicates another three, which is in fact the first three. So that apparently is the reference number for all shipping activity within this... er... effort?

The second looks like the package I sent today to Calim the time stamps match.

The third is a mystery to me, as it was sent off at 4 this morning from Middleburg Heights, OH to Rowland Heights, CA. No idea what it is but it appears to be 10 pnds. *Shrug*

A mystery is afoot! What can I say, I'm bored without my laptop! ^^

Sager probably sent 3 return labels. One to you and two to other customers.

Is it often that laptop screens wil come with dead pixels? If so, how many is average or whatever? Is it a big deal/very noticable when there is a dead pixel?

Its not something that is like super noticiable. But tis like a bug on your winshield that you can never get off. Sure you might get used to it... but every time you sit down its always there.

I would spring extra for the no dead pixels. They suck.

Update: RMA Package still hasn't reached destination after sending it a week ago. UPS tracking log shows a train delay as the culprit.

Okay, UPS shows delivery at noon on the 23rd. Would I get some sort of email confirmation when they it finished up and sent out? I haven't heard a peep from them, even after my mom's angry email to them, haha.

If you email me with your RMA number I can find out its status, and maybe hurry it along.

Also, ask your mom to copy me on any emails she sends to Sager so I can follow up. You have the best customer service in the industry with PowerNotebooks.com, but we need to be kept in the loop so that we can help.

I got my laptop back early on thursday, prompt arival! ^^

So far it's back to normal now, works just fine. I had a bit of a scare getting my HD back in. I was trying to slip it in sideways when the SATA bracket popped off and went flying accross the room. 0_0 Thankfully I stuck it onto the HD and popped the whole assembly in vertically. I guess it was meant to work that way.

So now I enjoy my laptop again. But I cant help but feel like I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. Come on shoe! Where is that shoe...

get with your tech support ASAP, either thru your resaler if they gave you warranty or thru sager. the faster you do, the faster you get everything back working again.

I had the same exact issue with my CX7 from Hypersonic.

    Soultion -

One of the RAM modules went bad. Luckily I have 2GB's in my machine, I was able to test each one individually.

Wow, this thread is still alive? Well the tech guys didnt say what the problem was. They just ripped all the guts out of my laptop and threw them out the window. Hehehe... salvaging the working parts was probably something for clevo or something. I remember that from my time at IT in my old high school.

If I could make one guess. I'd say it was the video card or the chipset. Nothing came up on my LCD, so there was something blocking the signal between the bios and the LCD, the chipset and video card are between them. My money is on the video card, new tech and all.

They were really good about the RMA and i couldnt be hapier with my baby.

(And the techs had me check both ram modules, either they both went out at the same moment, or it was something else)

Tried booting with each of the modules inidividually in both slots, several times. Did not seem to matter. Both didnt work or worked. So must not be the memory.

I would recommend contacting Sager Tech Support if it has gotten to that point; if it a physical issue with your hardware then you will probably not be able to fix it yourself.

It stopped doing it for the longest time, right when i filed for rma so I kept it. and now it has started acting up again
