Clearly a case where Asus is trying to take credit where none is due! If you google "world's first quad core laptop" Asus pops up all over the place.

LOL. The sad part is that it only has a 9700m GT.

At least Alienware checks their facts before they plaster stuff on their website! :( And yeah geez, it's not even a 9700M GTS.

Can't believe they didn't notice the D901C has been out with Quad Cores for about a year now.

Maybe they're referring to mobile quad cores.

Even with Mobile quad cores, they aren't the first ones. Haven't KN and Sager been at least offering them? I know for certain that they've been dropped in laptops before. I guess they can claim it because they're more of a well known house name than Sager or Clevo

And theres the Lenovo W700 and the HDX 18. Surely Asus knows those brands?

HP has been offering as well, but I believe Asus is claiming to be the first to have released or shipped a laptop with a mobile quad core.

Maybe Asus doesn't consider the HDX a gaming laptop.

i think they miss worded themselves and they meant to say mobile quad core and not desktop quad core.... (speculation of course)

edit: and allot of that stuff was under pre order.... mobile quads were only just released publicly. you know..the mobile quad launch, so no one was allowed to drop before said time. now es chips are a whole different matter....

Well except for Crysis and a couple other games, the 9700M GT flies. Usually sufficient. As for multi threaded games, such as Unreal based games, the quad will help tremendously. IMO, the 9700M GT with the Q6600 would likely perform like a 2.5ghz duo with a 9800M GT with games designed for quads, such as Crysis. Plus you can overclock that beast.

Doesn't Asus state that the multiplier will be unlocked for the QX9300 in this notebook? This would make it better than the HP HDX18--IMO. The option of Ocing the CPU combined with a higher clocked GPU in the 9700M GT makes this a solid video encoding and decent light gaming notebook. Of course the quality of the LCD and cooling for this notebook needs to be well above average.

Ehhhhh, hmm, I don't know if I'd go that far. Well, maybe at 1024x768, because Crysis is already GPU bound at 1280x1024. See: here

An increase of 400mhz on my desktop gives me about 5fps more, thats with an 8800 GTS 512.
