Apparently an Intel roadmap was leaked as posted on Engadget. Can't link since on my phone but it shows the desktop class Ivy Bridge i7 & i5 processors not hitting until Q2 2012. So I'm assuming mobile processors won't be arriving till later. Kind of sucks. I'm holding off on my next computer till Ivy Bridge. I may just stop waiting and build myself a desktop.

Maybe related to AMD calling it quits (if true)? I know I read somewhere the IB cpus were already in production

    Hey Guys,

I have to put on this: I can't tell you an exact date or anything like that (NDA's, we like getting love from Intel etc)

BUT, there has been no changes to the release date on IVB Desktop OR mobile.

That's good to hear then. As long as it's available during the summer, it's fine for me.

Personally I am suspicious of the original Sandy Bridge recall. I think that a lot of computer manufacturers were sitting on original i7 chipsets and then badaboom a faster better chipset/cpu is now on the market competing with the older technology. I think they jumped the gun on releasing the S/B and had to do some backpedaling. Anything newer and faster makes the current stuff practically worthless.

No, there actually was legitimately a problem in the silicon (on the chipset). Admittedly, it only affected a limited number of people via the SATA ports and it only happened over a long period of time. However, it was worthy of a recall because it affected such a large user base and shipped from the get-go- so it was relatively easy to get the problem fixed before it had been on the market too long.

^ I notice the 2630QM is absent there... also what's up with this shot?

Just 100MHz and 2MB L3 difference between 3720 and 3820? Doesn't make sense to me... A 3.4ghz quad boost for the entry level i7 though, wow!

To me that chart isn't very impressive. The desktop processors are dropping by what? 18w? And the mobile chips are staying the same? Also I doubt the performance will increase too much. Probably around 20%... 45nm to 32nm sandy bridge was much more significant at 40%+ base.... Correct me if I'm wrong here.

The 2630QM was released back in Q1/Q2 of 2011, not with the Sandy Bridge refresh in Q4. If you meant the 2670QM instead, it's not "Quad-Core performance" as it seems to fall in the "budget" i7 category. It doesn't support the features that 2760QM does, nor that of the 2640 or 2540.

Thats because the 2640m never got released from Intel. Yea it shows up on roadmaps, and on Ark, etc. But if we can't buy them it doesn't exist :p Otherwise we would be all about offering the 2640m beast of a dual-core

it seems like nothing has really changed. initial reports were a release deate of april 2012. if anything, maybe the desktop and mobile versions will both be released q2(april) 2012.

It seems desktop CPU are remaing with the same clocks, so thats probably why they are saving power. To what i see 400mhz is decent for a mobile cpu, over the 2630QM, hell its going to be a big boost for my i7 740QM 1.73ghz. I really don't care much about dropping W, i prefer to have higher clocks, as the use will be mostly gaming.

So there are no 6 core cpu Ivy Bridge cpus coming? I was hoping for an 18" laptop with a 6 core cpu next year. Really wish the x7200 was an 18".

    2640M ???? ???? :: ????? ?? ! ??? (????) - Danawa.com

At the bottom of each model's listing is the date it was available.

Prices are at the right in blue.(1,130KW = $1.00US)

I'm liking the 3720QM. I've always wanted the 2700 line for Sandy Bridge. Looks like the 3700 line will be the lowest clock fully featured mobile CPU which is perfect for me. Especially with the 2.6GHz clock with 3.4GHz boost on all cores! I can't wait till April now. Now just waiting to see what Nvidia is offering.

So an interesting question for those of use thinking about/lusting after some of the machines available right now is; will these new mobile processors work after a bios-flash/refresh with the existing sockets in the P180 or P170?

Is the socket the same, and thus you could buy a machine now and upgrade if you wanted to, or is it different enough that you MUST wait if you want the option of utilizing IB?

IB is backwards compatible with SB as long as there's a bios update to support it. If you're impatient though might as well just get the 2760 and forgo Ivy in favor of a Haswell laptop

The one big thing I was really looking forward to was a 35W quad core IB chip. Anandtech had stated there was going to be one - AnandTech - Ivy Bridge Will Bring a 35W Quad-Core i7

That would have meant we could have seen a quad core 13" laptop that could handle 4K video. Talk about a portable powerhouse!

I don't see the 35W quad core on these leaks, and I hope that just means these slides are incomplete. Otherwise IB doesn't seem all that attractive in comparison to SB.

IVB Quads and Duals in mobile will be out Q2 next year as far as we've been told.
