Since intel is dropping prices on processors on the 22nd, do you think the price drop will effect laptops? Or specifically the Sager 2090???
Also where would the fastest place to get one of these be?

there is no fastest place...you're going to have to go through the waiting like all of us, ^_^.

You can get the Sager 2090 at www.Sagernotebook.com
-
Well I was wondering if some retailers have longer wait times than others.
And once more would the price drops effect laptops? -

I would reccomend powernotebooks.com and xoticpc.com
Both resellers are known for their quality of customer service and I've only had personal experiences with xoticpc.com and it's GREAT! There is almost never a time where you have to wait to talk to a real person! Very fast communication when it's not on the phone.
They're even on the forums!

Well I bit the bullet and ordered my 2090.
Can't wait till it arrives. I picked xoticpc, any idea how long I have to wait? I only upgraded the ram and added a car adapter. -

If you ordered today than you'll probably get your's in August.

The July 22nd price drop is for desktop processors only. The laptop price drop won't be until after August.

Any idea why they're dropping prices? I mean, it's not as if they're being pressured by competition from AMD at this point, right? The Core 2 Duo's have left AMD in the dust. As a computer enthusiast, it's great news that they're dropping prices. But more importantly, as a long term stock holder (since 1989) of INTC, it sucks to hear that they're dropping prices of their processors, thereby affecting the bottom numbers. It has taken such a long while for the company's stock price to bounce back up to decent level again. Today 5% gain was a joy, don't get me wrong, and I always buy on the dip/pull back, but it's such a slow moving stock. And to hear that they're dropping prices when it's not really necessary kinda sucks. I wonder why they're dropping prices?

dit_xi, you say you are a stockholder. Intel is required to inform their stockholders about their management principles. Perhaps it would be better for you to use your rights as a stockholder to ask the people who can provide you with an authoritative answer regarding prices rather than ask us.
-
hehe, lemur. me and my measley shares of INTC...you ever trade stocks lemur?
I apologize for the fouling up the posts. entirely unrelated to the notebook forum. won't happen again, a'ight. -
It will affect laptops
At least the price for procs for the D901C's
September 2nd is the price drop for some of the laptop procs. -

dit_xi, Intel has been dropping prices and cycling their processors through their 5 tier system for years. The have been doing it so long that it is totally predictable.
They have 5 bins. Each bin has had the same price on it for years and it was only the processors that moved down from bin to bin, and then the new faster processor would be released and put in the top bin and the slowest processor would be discontinued and drop out of the bottom bin. With this next "price drop" the T7100 will be discontinued, the T7300 will drop into the bottom bin, the T7500 will drop down one bin and so on...and the new Extreme X7900 will go into the currently vacant top bin.
Now, one thing is different with the release of the Santa Rosa processor and that is they have for the first time in years realigned the pricing in the top 3 bins to create a bigger spread between them and the bottom 2 bins.
Remember when the T5500 was in the lowest bin and the T5600 was in the next bin up at about $50 more and the T7200 was in the next bin up at about another $50 more...then the T7400 was about $150 more than the T7200 and the T7600 was about $400 more than the T7200? Well the bottom bin now holds the T7100 and the 2nd bin holds the T7300 at about $50 more, but the 3rd bin now holds the T7500 at about another $90-95 more than the 2nd bin instead of the old $50 more...and the 4th bin that used to be $200 more than the 2nd bin is now about $285 more and the top bin that used to be about $450 more than the 2nd bin will be about $650 more than the 2nd bin once the X7900 Extreme is released...realigning the top 3 bins.
So, for most of us from now on the 2nd bin will always be the "sweet spot" with what ever is in it at the time instead of the 3rd bin like it was before the Santa Rosa.
I know it will take a minute to study this to see the relationships, but this has been the way Intel has "adjusted" its pricing about 3-4 times a year for years, and but for this new realignment they will continue adding the new one in the top bin, discontinuing the one in the bottom bin, and sliding the rest down one bin for years to come.
Except...for the curve ball, which is for the Extreme processors they have now created 2 more bins at the top. At the next "price drop" which we now know is not really a price drop but a sorting of what is in each bin they will leave bin #6 (Extreme bin) empty and fill #7 with the X7900. They will discontinue the T7300 and leave bin #2 empty but introduce the new T7250 into bin 1 and introduce the new T7800 2.6GHz into bin 5. That way they can slide what is in bins 3, 4 and 5 down one bin.
For those who are now totally confused we will have special tutoring after class -

You will see those prices on the Sager NP9260 drop after the close of business on Friday July 20th. -
So, this new "T7250", as it'll take over bin 1 and the T7500 will take over bin 2, will the T7250 be at least close to what the T7300 offers to us now?
Honestly, why won't Intel just keep the T7300? I think it's a great processor on a budget, and many people here also feel the same way. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
As of September 2nd the the T7500 will be at the same price as the T7300 is now. Then the T7250 2GHz (but with 2M L2 on-die cache) will be the same price as the T7100 is now.
You see, things will be the same...only better.
July 22nd intel price drop. Will it effect laptops?
