Yay!! I'm so excited! First, I'd like to thank all the people that presented this particular Lappy to me opposed to the M9750 and M1730 (which I was originally going to get...). Im SOOOO much more happier I ordered this one and am SOOO happy you guys led me down the right path! :D I have a couple questions though...

    1. I ordered it from Xoticpc.com, and I got the free 4gbs of ram. Will the laptop be shipped with the x64 version of vista?

    2. How long does it normally take to arrive at your doorstep? I'm from Canada...

    Thanks!

you can install one yourself, provided you have one. if not, you need to get on the phone and add one. buying one xoticpc.com is actually cheaper than instore. but you do only get an oem copy.

I assumed that Xotic shipped the laptop with vista already installed. Should I go order Vista, or will it already be installed on the laptop but I just won't receive the disks. I'm confused, normally they come shipped with an OS, but you pay extra to get the disks... (i thought anyways...)

you pay for the os and disks. it's not either/or. i'm assuming you've only bought from retailers. resellers usually have alot more options when it comes to os and this is an opportunity to get what you want. it will come with disks, unlike a lot of big companies taking up hdd with restore partitions or their custom bloatware os's.

if you order 64bit vista, then your 5793 will have 64bit vista installed, and xotic pc will be giving you both OEM 32bit/64bit discs.

Do you mean the difference between retail and OEM versions of Microsoft OSes?

If so, basically, with the retail version you get prettier packaging, as Nirvana pointed out, you can also transfer the retail version to a different computer, but not the OEM version. "Retail" btw, here means the version you buy by itself, with a CD/DVD in a cardboard box, and not already preinstalled on a computer you buy at the same time.

EDIT: P.S., if you ever have a question about something you've purchased from a reseller, especially something as crucial as whether or not you ordered an OS with the system, you really should contact that reseller ASAP instead of, or in addition to, posting here. :D With xoticpc and a few other resellers (e.g., powernotebooks and kobalt computers), since they're members of the forum, you can also pm them from here (or send them an email directly from here in the case of PNB). The forum is a great place to get info, but no place is better than the horse's mouth, particularly when it comes to whether or not you remembered to purchase a certain component. :D

Nice buy OP ,but as others said,it`s better to get the 64bit Vista since you get both 32 and 64 bit recovery disks.
Another thing to note,if you can get it cheaper than100$,get vista elsewhere.(student discounts etc)

I hate to be a pain right now, but the 5793 is good only for those seeking a fast performing laptop at a decent price, since the 5796 is just around the corner and that should be much better.

This is valid when you don`t have an exact release date for 'the next best thing' , but not here.
The 5796 will hit the market mid July, with the 9800M GTX.
However, the 5793 is still the best RIGHT NOW.

there are, the loop hole is to just buy ANY piece of hardware (even a cable) to get the OEM software.

I know, I used to do computer retail. :)

    Newegg sells it. :D

But the prices at XoticPC and Powernotebooks for the software are quite competitive.

and they will install it with the drivers for you.

I think a lot of people got theirs free Vista through the Windows Feedback Program (WFP).... I did that too, but chose Office Ultimate 2007.... which has the most worth.

I do not get why people chose Windows Vista (out of the software list) to get for free... because ironically, the feedback program was about re-evaluating Vista for its replacement... Windows 7. LOL. :D

So do lots of folks on eBay, although the difficulty there is differentiating between those selling authentic OEM copies and those selling counterfeit copies - and, as I have discovered, while you might lucky on an auction, if the purchase-it-now price looks too good (i.e., substantially less than everyone else's price), it is too good.

I want to unload my Vista... my friend could not unload his for over a month on eBay and craigslist.

Vista does not seem to be as hot as Office 2007.

I understand about the legit and "backup" software selling, I always ask if they have MS paperwork or a COA with the product.... if no, I report them.
