I haven't done a thing to my computer since I've got it except install 3DMark06, CoD4, and DirectX 9.0C (to run DX 9 games). Are the drivers for all my hardware not already installed on the system? Is there some key tweak I need to perform that I'm missing? This is the first time I've used Vista so I don't really know what I'm doing yet. Any advice is appreciated.

try 175.80 lol

Ok, can someone please give me some instructions on how to get the right drivers from www.laptopvideo2go.com as their site is very confusing and I'm not sure which drivers I should use?
-
and you should disable your PowerMizer (in Nvidia Control Panel).

Try using the driver update guide:

I like the 174.74, 174.82, and 175.70 drivers as I have used and tested all three on Nvidia hardware. Download and install whatever one you find first. -
you wont get much higher with 8600mGT anyway (i think ;p)
-
yeah your score is not to far off. try new drivers but with the 8600 dont expect to much higher
-
If you have the DDR2 8600m then that's about right. I had that card in my previous Dell Vostro 1700 and I could get about 3200 at 1280x1024 when using the 169.04 drivers.

I had the same card in my Asus C90S and got about 3600 in XP and 3100 in Vista 64Bit.
I think changing drivers with your current config will only help a little.
If you want a more significantly better score I suggest switching to XP and getting some good drivers. -
The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
Switching to XP will improve a few hundreds.
-
^^ yep thats right. My score is 3800

Defrag your HHD. That can help.

is it possible to do a dual boot xp and vista on this laptop? how many gigs of RAM of the 4 would the xp detect?
-
64 bit OS reads 4 gigs, 32 bit OS reads 3-3.5 so it depends which one you get. I'm not even sure if xp x64 exists or not.
-
xp64 exists, but driver support is scarce...
-
@vestibule - yes it is possible, xp32 will as has been said detect 3-3.5GB ram, vista if you use x64 will see it all.
-
vista x32 will also see all 4gb with sp1 installed...
-
-
@vestibule - VISTA sp1, not xp sp1...with xp you def want sp2 or 3

I'm still at a loss of what common scores for a 2092 are. I'm on the exact same setup. T9300, 8600M T, 4GB Ram, Vista Ultimate 64. My first score was 2733, dismal. I even came across one 800ish score. Not sure how that happened.
Now I'm running 174.82, and turned the settings in the Nvidia panel to performance. I'm up to 3316 now. I'm seeing other people with similar hardware get upwards in the 4000's. Is it just because of Vista? I might set up a XP partition if it gets me up there. -
For my lappy, when I first bought it I set up Vista Home Basic x86 (I've a spare copy kicking around because, well, who wants to run home basic 32 bit anyways?) and XP SP3. I've only got 2gb ram, so 64 bit is generally wasted (I have no real 64 bit apps). Anyways, my T9300/8800M GTX went from approx 8500 to 9323 with nothing but the OS and 3dmark06 installed, at stock settings.
That's a pretty significant margin right there. Vista will certainly improve with time, but currently, XP is where it's at for performance. If you like the Look And Feel of vista, you can get that in XP too - matching task bar, start menu, gadgets, windows, etc. You can actually skin XP to be virtually identical to Vista.
That said, something you should definitely look in to is OCing your card (get what you can out of it). You probably can do it in nTune (integrates with your nVidia control panel), though some setups(like my system) won't allow software overclocking.
If you can't do that, SetFSB will overclock your processor via the frontside bus. I've got the same processor, and I can run stable at 2.9ghz. For 3dmark06, that nets a 1300 point gain for me. Others have got 3 and even 3.1ghz. There's a thread in the.. erm, hardware and accessories? section by Audigy with a tool that you can run in your startup folder to automatically overclock your processor at boot time with setfsb, which makes it incredibly simple to set up. As this overclock also increases your PCI-e bus speed, it also nets you a minor effective gpu overclock as a bit of a bonus, too.
Food for thought, anyways! -
Yup..that's about right for that card...but if you want to kick in some more points, go to your mobile power settings and max some stuff out. I think Vista selects balanced by default. I use a custom plan that's even more high performance than the pre-configured high performance one.
-
yeah im still trying out different drivers here

go to your Nvidia control panel, and it's under the "Mobile" branch
Does Powermizer still turn on even when I have my laptop plugged in? In which case.. that means I should just turn it back on when I'm on battery? -
All I have is:
+3D Settings
+Display
+Video and Television
I've looked through all of the subheaders. Am I missing something or looking in the wrong place? -
Powermizer is only available in the NVCP in winXP. To change PM settings in vista, you have to edit the registry
Just Got my Sager NP2092 and my 3DMark06 scores are low...
