Just wanted to say, this site is the main reason I went with Sager. After comparing Notebooks over the last couple of months, finally decided on the Sager NP5793 from Xotic pc.
I realize that this model is being discontinued, but the $700.00 savings was to hard to pass up. And buying from Xotic was an easy decision based on the BBB and customer satifaction ratings.
My main object during this "quest" was to stay as close to $1500.00 as possible and the runners up were Asus and a distant 3rd Gateway FX.
What turned me off about the Asus was the "Red" case w/ blue lights.........wth? And as far as the Gateway...............well, it's a Gateway !
Anyways , it's a big step up for me, coming from a "now defunct" HP DV9035nr, after only 2 yrs. and 1 month the "defective 7600go finally went ! What gets me about this particular situation is.......1. Nvidia admitted to shipping defective gpu's ! 2. HP is only covering this series of notebooks that contain an AMD cpu and telling the rest of us Intel owners to take a hike. I've sworn off "NAME" brand notebooks since !
Anyways here's the specs and thanks to everyone here who help steer me in the right direction !

Welcome to the NBR forums.
that system looks quite bang for the buck.
down the line, you can still upgrade the CPU and/or GPU when needed.
what kinds of games are you planning to play with this beast? -
Congratulations! Killer gaming machine!
Great deal and welcome. -
Well, thats another reason for this notebook, can upgrade cpu and GPU
, where as the notebook I have now, HP 9000 series with the defective 7600go is soldered onto the MB, replacement cost $461.00, not including tax, shipping and possible labor !
Big RPG player here! Recently finished FO3, though I liked FO1 and 2 better !
The Witcher
Going to run through Crysis again, since the HP notebook could only run it at low settings...........I know it won't max out on the Sager, but I bet it well be a sight better than what I was using !
Bioshock, again
Picking up Left for Dead as soon as the Sager notebook arrives.
Any good RPG or FPS...............count me in ! -
Welcome to the club!, I was also in the same journey looking for the best laptop below $1500, and ended with the np5793 too, amazing machine!
Congratulations! -
Congratulations. That is one great computer. You will be very happy with it.
You should be able to play Crysis on Medium High or High on that GPU. -
Congrats. I HATE how expensive it is here in Norway. My M860 cost like 2600 with a P9500, 9800M GT, 1680:1050, 4gb ram, 250gb HD, BT.
AND YOU GOT A BLU-RAY TOO? I wanna move =) -
I just ordered the same thing...I'm confused as to how you totaled at $1500. I didn't get the OS, but what else did you get?
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
-
Original base price minus $700.00 discount = $ 1202.00
Bumped up one cpu/ ~Intel® T8100 $100.00
Custom fitted skin $89.00
Bumped up Intel wireless to 5300 $20.00
Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit Installed $97.00
Shipping $34.00
Total $1542 -
what are you using it for?
-

-
I also went with xoticpc. I just went with the baseline model. I didn't feel the $100 extra for the 8100 was worth it.
-
Like I said earlier, after months of searching and comparing , I thought this was the best deal in town ! -
I might upgrade in the future, but meh. I just sold a DV7T to get this. I originally wanted the T9300, but then my DV7T sold for practically nothing, leaving my budget at practically nothing. I'm going from a t9600 2.8 to a 2.0. I can live though.
-
aight, cool.
your going to regret not getting that t9300 buddy... -
Coming from a core duo 2 1.66,7600go and 2 Gb of ram, I think it will do the job for now and again one of the main reasons for buying this notebook was............."User Upgradable" and staying as close to the budget I set for myself ! -
i came from a
nw8240
hp dv9740
gateway 6831
gateway 6860
gateway 7811
np9262 with q9550/9800m gt sli
np9262 with qx9650/9800m gtx sli
so i think it's safe to say...i have a pretty good idea what your going thru... -
Congratulations on getting the 5793! I have had mine for over 18 months now and it is a great notebook.
Since I use a lot of programs that are happy with the more memory the better such as Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc., I upgraded the memory to 8GB of ram. I have the T9300 and may go for the X9000 in a couple of months.
Those two upgrades will keep my 5793 usable for at least the next two years for me and is another reason why this notebook is such a good deal. You do not have to worry about it getting outdated that quickly. -
Umm, the 5793 only came out 12 months ago...You may have had a 5791 or 5792 before that...
If your laptop does not have a big "Extreme Edition" engraved on the bottom and a 3rd fan hole then it is not a 5793, the "3" came out at the same time as the 8800M GTX and Penryn refresh (x9000, etc) -
-
fair enough, I count myself as having had this notebook since aug 07, but in fact I got a maxxed 5792 equivalent then, but swapped it in for this one in jan 08
-
What kind of a deal did you get as far as "Swapping" your notebook and with who ?
Just wondering ............Thanks ! -
I bought the original one off killernotebooks, on the assumption that the 8800mGTX's would fit, but then the whole thing with the motherboard replacement happened, and I needed a whole new machine. I basically got cross shipped (across the atlantic, I had the new machine before I sent the old one back) a new machine, with upgraded gfx, hdd, cpu, ram, bluetooth & wireless at upgrade cost (+shipping).
The K|N difference -
Mine is in production!
I'm hoping it comes quick. I'm still going crazy. -
Know the feeling ! Mine just left custom build and burn-in and went to paint............9 business days now............but sure it's worth the wait !
-
Update: Recieved my notebook 3 days ago and all I can say.............WOW !
I haven't even played a game on it yet! Been doing some Vista tweaks and set ups. I am throughly impressed so far with just the build quality, compared to notebooks I had in the past, HP, Dell, Gateway And Xoticpc's service was great !
Again, thanks to everyone here who helped me see the errors of my ways and steer me in the right direction of what a notebook should be !
Will update w/pics of custom skin soon !
Games loaded. patched and ready:
Crysis
Bioshock
Mass Effect
Assassins Creed
Tha Witcher EE
