I ordered the NP8170 laptop from Xoticpc.com about 4 days ago with the 120hz display and the 485m graphics card. I paid around $3200.00 for it. This week they added the better graphics card (580m) to there website and my configuration now costs $225 less than what I paid just a few days ago. I was wondering if they will be able to upgrade my videocard or issue me a partial refund since only a week has passed since I ordered it? I got the email that it was being sent for building at around 6PM Friday June 24th.
I guess well see what happens tomorrow...

If you've paid for it and it has NOT been shipped, you should be able to rescind the order for a money-back. If this is the case, call them and see if they'll place the 580M in for you, as you've paid the due price for it; returning the notebook and re-buying the same configuration would have the same result, I'm sure. But mainly, call them and see. That is indeed a sucky situation to be in.

Make sure that at the very least they give you the difference back. Their website states that they will offer you price protection until it leaves Sager's facility.

We contacted every one of our customers today, who had a pending order with a 485M card, and gave them the option of keeping the 485M and deducting $200 from their total or switching to the new 580M at no extra cost. If your order hasn't shipped yet, then you should be able to get the new 485M price and/or switch to the 580M. :)

Call XoticPC and work it out...
    1. Sager isn't building the P170HM3 with 580M because it isn't certified yet: SOURCE. So if you want a 120Hz screen NOW, you're stuck with a 485M.
    2. XoticPC couldn't reveal anything because of NDA so don't blame them
    3. Visit these forums more often! We've been fishing for the 580M release date(s) since June 8th in the linked thread.

Hi Jp , thanks for the help! I spoke with Brett from the sales department and everything is taken care of. I reordered the np8170 & the 580M w/out the 3d screen. I just hope it doesnt take too long to ship since i need it very soon...

Just out of curiousity, will i be able to upgrade the display to 120hz in the future when the 580m is compatible with it? If yes, how much will it likely cost?

Glad we could get you set Nadizo! If they release a firmware/driver fix that makes that possible you could definitely upgrade the screen at that time. The cost at this point is hard to tell since it would all be dependent on how much those screens are going for. Feel free to email or PM me and we can get you set.

Be aware that 580M ETA is early July and will have high demand initially. That may delay your order.
