I literally just 5 minutes ago ordered a NP9261 through XoticPC.

    17" WSXGA+ "Matte"
    Intel Core 2 QUAD Q6600 2.4GHz
    512MB 7950
2Gig 800Mhz RAM (1 Simm, will likely upgrade it to 4 Gig almost right away)
    Standard Finish
160GB Seagate Momentus 3GB/S (heard good things about it!)
    8x8x6x4 Dual Layer DVD
    Internal 7-in-1 Card Reader
    Built in Wireless/bluetooth
    1.3 Megapixel camera
    Standard sound and speakers
    Windows Vista Premium 64-bit
    3 year warranty

    Total Price: $2,619

I got it for my upcoming deployment and will likely use it to replace my desktop once I get back from the desert. I love the fact that this thing is user upgradeable. Anyway, what do ya'll think? Worth the money? Will I be happy? It'll be almost exclusively used for gaming/multimedia. Lots of Oblivion, MTW2, FEAR, maybe HL2 if I can get it so I don't REQUIRE a damn internet connection to play it...

I (and maybe only I) would of chosen a different screen: the WUXGA.

Oh, well, if I'd had the extra cash to burn, maybe I would have gotten a different screen as well...but I'm just a Cable Tech/Air Force reservist, I can scarcely believe I've spent the money I have on this thing, so...<shrug>

HI, Dalthius with that spec you will be very happy with your system. The only thing that I would do is to save up for the NVIDIA 8800M GTX SLI when it comes out. That is what I am going to do when it come out I am going to buy it from XOTIC PC.

My only concern (and it's a small one) with this system is its ability to play a game like Crysis or Oblivion with max or near-max settings. With just the one 7950 I will NOT be playing Crysis anywhere near max, but I should still be able to get a very good experience, yes? I don't give a rat's petunia about DX10 at the moment, at least not for a laptop.

You may be able to play at 1280x800 with all settings on high. I don't know exactly, because my experience is limited to the 8700m GT, which is slightly less powerful.

i played the demo at 1280x800 on all settings medium, and got 25-30 fps, which is decent enough for that game, which still has some optimization to be worked out: such as the game not taking advantage of multi-core processors OR SLI.

The 7950 is a good card it won't play Crysis at max but it should play it a decent res and eye candy. You won't have problems with Oblivion you might need to drop a res to play comfortable but I have played it on a 7900 go at 1440x900 and had it feel comfortable. Most of the time.

The glossy screen is very attractive. High contrast, vivid colors and high resolution. Your one memory stick will not run balanced, so you may loose some performance there. In case you buy another, be sure to get an identical stick. Otherwise sync delays and errors may occur. Better change your order right away...

So ya'll think its best to add that second stick of RAM right away as opposed to trying to find the same stick after I receive it? You think it is cheaper? Do you really think I'd see much of a performance difference with an extra 2 Gigs of RAM with Vista Premium 64-bit edition?

Exactly how long have you been waiting? My lappy went into "production" yesterday, they SAY it takes 3 to 6 business days to build, but....I'm really REALLY crossing my fingers that it will be put together and shipped to my eager hands by the 13th/14th of November, but, uh, somehow I really doubt that is going to happen...

Umm I ordered mine on 10/17 it went into build on 10/18 and now custom paint on 11/01 so yea it can take a while because of the great testing that they do on the machine before shipping

I was thinking about getting the exact same configuration except no OS since I can just my own copy of XP 32 bit. Does rigorous testing still apply to systems with no OS. I mean how can they test if they aren't putting an OS on it?

hey man, good luck to you. I just got mine in the mail yesterday... I went with the e6800 though.

One word of warning, when I opened the box on mine, I found two broken keys on the keyboard, a dead pixel in the middle of the screen, and this strange plastic strip just south of the space bar that won't stay clipped into it's little connectors...

Xotic isn't returning my tech support emails... which is a big change from the before purchase care where they were all over any emails I sent them, and answered within an hour.

I'm wondering if after purchase/ payment support is weak from this company, it really makes me not feel to warm about having this thing especially after having spent THIS MUCH MONEY.

yeah, I need to clarify though, I'm thinking that this is going to become a nightmare because I'm heading to the east coast for a week, won't be able to address the problems in a timely manner, etc.

I'm a bit precious about my electronics, happily though, after getting off the phone with Xotic (Daniel), I'm really impressed with their service.

I'm thinking my email was just lost, as opposed to ignored. (I think I've dealt too much with other computer providers that have left me jaded.)

I mean so it sucks, having two broken keys, a stuck pixel cluster, etc. etc. but I'm pretty happy in knowing that they (Xotic) want to help me get this fixed, ASAP.

bobeer, time has been in factor in me not calling them until now, and frankly, I was completely in the wrong, these guys are making me really happy with the support.

Now, as far as the machine goes... omgwtfbbq! I'm actually thinking of getting rid of my desktop because this thing is almost 100% perfect for me.

Anyone who can afford one of these, and is in the market for it should get one, and I'd go so far as to say they should call up Justin for it.

I can't speak for everyone but I know my dealings with XOTIC PC have been really good to this point. They went out of their way to make sure I made informed decisions and the customer service afterwards was top notch. I hope you get your problems resolved in a way that meet your needs as well.

My NP9261 just shipped out yesterday. I ended up upgrading shipping to "overnight" since I'm leaving town on a prolonged trip (read: deployment) next week.

I'm psyched, can't wait to get that thing. Since it's Vista Premium 64-bit, am I going to have to do some searching for workable drivers, or is that something they should have already covered in the testing phase?

nice rig, but why get a X6800, when its more feasible to get a Q6600 or Q6700.

well for me right now fortunately money's not the issue...i dunno much about the differences between the x6800 or the q6700 i thought maybe the x6800 would give better performance....but if it doesnt do lemme know i placed the order couple o hours ago n i can still mend it before it heads off into production...

Pretty significant difference actually.... in CPU heavy processing.

Look here at the multi-threaded test table.... the Q6600 (quad-core) still crushes the X6800 and the other dual cores.

Yes the Q6700 is slightly better than the Q6600... worth the difference in price... IMO no.

But in your case, I would get the Q6700 if you have no budget restraint.

oh yea.... thats a great idea.

Get the Q6700 (rather than the X6800), and get a Blu-ray drive (specify it, then they will get it for you).

And if you have WUXGA (1920x1200) screen, then you are set for 1080p (1920 x 1080p). :)

Thats what I am hoping to do in the near future with my unit... getting a blu-ray drive to go with my WUXGA screen. :D

they do not normally offer an expensive and unpopular item... such as Blu-Ray.

However, they will special order about any item you want for your notebook if you specify the item type, model number, manufacturer... etc...

Its a waste of money to stock Blu-Ray drives, when only less than 1% of people are interested in getting a drive when purchasing a notebook.

No... you can still get the Blu-ray drive through them (contact XoticPC), just ask them to special order it for your notebook. thats all.

    Read about RAID:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID

    For example:
    With 2x 200GB drives . . .
RAID 1: You will see 1x 200GB drive (in My Computer), the other drive will mirror the data
RAID 0: You will see 1x 400GB drive (in My Computer), but it's actually two drives with the data striped across them
Separate drives: You will see 2x 200GB drives

Don't bother with RAID 0 because it provides less than a 5% improvement in everyday activities and it doubles the risk of losing your data.

    another thing.

Get 1 stick of 2GB... so you will have another slot of RAM free for future upgrades.

And maybe you can get yourself a slick custom paint job (with its own warranty) for your notebook if you are going through XoticPC... they have made some crazy nice paint jobs for people.

    here are some great examples:
