So, i just bought it yesterday and i already have a global view of the situation regarding the disassembly of the card, my question is about the thermal paste for the vga, whats the best one, also what about the memory of the card do i need to put anything besides what's already in the heatsink?
regards,
-
-
the GPU will need an application of thermal compound, most people use Arctic Silver 5 or a white compound (like from OCZ and such).
the Video memory should have thermal pads as the medium for heat transfer from the memory chips themselves to the heatsink/caging. -
-
cant know until you post pics of the new card and the heatsink/caging that you plan on installing.
-
Well i already showed to you pics of it i think in another thread......but as soon as i have the card ill post pics.
Here's the heatsink first:

I wanna see the inside of the heatsink.... which will show the memory thermal pads layout.
-
Are there cleaner pics of the inside of the heatsink floating around??? -
-
-
they are usually adhered to the heatsink only.

wont know for sure until you do the swap. -

Use Arctic Cooling MX-2 its Better than old one AS5
-
where did you buy the card??? i'm planning on upgrading my 8700m
-
I bought it here in Lisbon. -
I notice that the fan on your notebook is attached to the mainboard side...the original M860TU had the fan attached to the removable cover plate...Might we have finally worked out what the difference between the M860 and M865 is???
Also does your label under the lappy say M860TU or M865TU (not that that's conclusive, but hey) -
-
Shock story - Clevo's new M865TU has been developed to withstand heat from a 9800M GTX! See the 'M860TU massive' erupt with fury!
NOTE: Please take that line above with a grain of salt if your first intuition is to think it's a serious statement.
Which brings me to this next point. When do you think you're actually gonna be able to test this out? Hurry up and get the thermal paste on that thing already and stop dilly-dallying already... -

Was it was bought through a XPS SLi upgrade pack? I'm sure you'll find no shortage people wanting to buy that second card if this works...

i only bought it last friday, so this week i should receive it. -

Kevin_Jack2.0 said: ↑Even since the first off the line, the fan has been attached to the mainboard, but the user and service manuals incorrectly depict it as attached to the plate. I don't know what happened for Clevo change the design in the finalized model, but the manuals were obviously put into print before the decision was made.Click to expand...
Tomorrow im hoping to have the card......ill post photos.....right now im trying to figure whats the best version of the Rxx realtek highdef audio driver......im still having some distortion........ -
When you receive it, can you make photos of all the assembly? I'm interested in how the card fits in M860TU heatsink..thx

There are 5 or 6 little clips around the outside of the casing, carefully prise apart one side with a small flat screwdriver, then it should simply come off
Edited to add picture
-
so ill post here, i managed to remove it from the casing, ill probably be only able to change this weekend. Some doubts, to remove the vga card from the connector i need to rise it a little right?. Also i just removed it without checking for anti static electricity, even thought ive been touching things glued to the ground .....that was stupid...still i think im all right.
edit: ill post pictures here this weekend. -
dont worry about the static stuff, it very unlikely nowadays for that to cause issues.
I do not remember the last time I used my static wristband... and I work on custom desktops, notebooks, and servers all the time now. -

Also what kind of thermal should i use?i also have an artic clean kit too i think. -
any thermal compound should suffice... but most prefer Arctic Silver or OCZ or Thermaltake compounds.
-
i have use almost every good thermal compound and i can tell you the best now is Arctic Cooling MX-2 much better and older AS5 and all other for Video Cards is very good too i used in my D901C with 8800M GTX and now with 9800M GTX card and they both never go higher than 55-60 deg. in games

edit: found a store that has both the mx-2 and Artic silver 5.....which one should i go for? -
I have MX-2 and it is a little better than AS5

They're both conductive right?Better be careful then.....also to clean the residues of old paste whats the better way to do it?what kind of paper or tissue should i use? -

as for cleaning off the previous compound.
I usually get a tissue and rub the stuff off.... and use a bit of water on the tissue for moisture when needed.
If you have contact cleaner:
its works great... better than water (when giving moisture to a towel or tissue. -
The mx-2 is not electrical conductive, it has not metal particels..
for cleaning I use an acholic solvent.. -
MX-2 isn't conductive but AS5 is. Either way still be careful.
You should either use a lint-free cloth or coffee filter paper. -
I have a clean kit from artic i think..ill post pics when i go back home today.....
-
Just bought the mx-2 paste. I still have some doubts about some pieces of adehesive type of paper or thermalpads under some components of the vga card that are not the memory.....
-
AS5 is not technically conductive and as such should be ok if a small amount gets onto the electronics. It is however slightly capacitative, so you may get problems anyway. Basically it isn't conductive, but don't splurge it around
-
Hi all! Ok i already have all tools i thing to change the graphic but i have some doubts still, ill post some photos so you can understand better:

This is vga in the m57tu cooper case, i already know how to remove the card, but i have some doubts, the adhesive paper(are those thermal pads too?? ) on some of the components you see here the photo, does these need to go to into the copper case of the m860tu???
I assume the heatsink contais the thermal pads for the memory, right??
Also is it alright to clean the cpu and gpu with those flasks of artic clean kit???What kind if paper should i use ??
Also is the removing order of the crews the same as the assembly one? -
So what kind of paper should i use to clean the cpu and gpu???
-
Lint-free cloth or coffee filter paper is what I hear is good.
-
i used the arctic clean remover with several drops but the gpu has some plastic piece around it, and some liquid went between the plastic piece and the gpu center, i dont know if i can remove the plasic and clean under it too???
-

the black palstic piece where you see most of the old thermic paste, can it be removed??? or is it glued???compared to this image:
-
Ill leave it there...

well bad news, my heatsink doesnt support the 8800m Gtx even if the 8800m Gtx coud be inserted in the copper case....i need a new heatsink and copper case which means ill just go the place where i bought the vga card, here's a photo of both vga cards and the vga heatsink.

I don't understans Maxrunner, have you bought a new 8800M GTX for M860TU like blumercury did?
Blumercury, the card arrived with M570RU heatsink? -
im sorry, Maxrunner and me are the same, i just accidentely created two accounts...with the same email go figure.
Anyway i need to get the correct heatsink, any ideas? -
The 8800M GTX in that picture is bigger than the card you removed from your M860TU, right? This means that it won't fit in the 860 anyway, no?
I always thought that the cards for the M860TU looked smaller than the M570R/TU
Just bought a 8800m Gtx for my clevo m860tu
