    Well,

Just found the Toshiba Quosmio X300 here in Portugal. Cheaper and better equiped then the Clevo M570TU. With the 9800M GTX against the 9500 GT, 2 disks (of 320GB) instead of one it is cheaper 100 Euros.

Has I predicted competition in the notebook market of this range (high end gaming systems) is becoming fierce.

Nevermind it is in Portuguese, just look at the specs:

    X300:

    http://webservinfor.com/php/product_info.php?cPath=36&products_id=1459

    M570TU:

    Prices are with TAX.

    http://webservinfor.com/php/product_info.php?cPath=44&products_id=1392

I wonder how things will be in the US, but in Europe it seams this is how drums will roll (we pay TAX for every notebook we buy as it is not state dependent).

    What do you think?

M570TU is user/owner friendly when it comes to upgrading.
There are some differences, screen resolution for one, weight for another
and the megapixel rating for the web cam. The Clevo is 2.0 vs 1.3 for the Qosmio.

Toshiba, at least with the Satelite that I had, was not easy or upgrade friendly.

    The M570TU I have with the T9400 was $2137 USD or 1450€
while the Qosmio at the URL you provided is 2169€ or $3188 USD
(With any luck, once the "shmuck" is out of office and McCain is in
the exchange rate will level off or be the reverse as it was for the first year the euro was out, BTW, I'm still voting for Clinton)

I thought I already said that in the EU the Clevo is more expansive and the links say so. I also went to Kobalt and did a similar config and the price of a M570TU with a 9800M GTX and a single HDD of 500GB costs 2500 Euros.

    @Zenica,

So the price of your TU does not work in the comparison as your notbook in Europe costs around €2000 with a 8800M GTX.

I wonder what will be the price of the X300 in the USA, and if it will be less expensive then "equivalent" Clevo's. Even if it is on par, it is definitely a sign that high end laptop gaming systems are becoming mainstream.

As of being a upgradeable or not, the news says that this one can handle any CPU up to a Quad Core mobile.

This is defenitly a contender to any Clevo and DELL XPS M1730. The only one that I saw with more competitive pricing was the new whitebook from OCZ (ARIMA). I mean, in Europe as the prices of Clevo are very high in comparison with the USA. Just go to any Sager shop and make a config, then go for instance to Kobalt Computer and make the same config, use x-rates and calculate the price in dollars and you will se what I mean.

    Trance
PS: The release in EU is September.

The Clevo is the better deal lets take a look at why..

    Resolution (1920 x 1200 vs 1440 x 900) Clevo wins
CPU (T9600 2.8) both have it, no advantage
Ram (DDR3 vs DDR2) and the Clevo is expandable to 8gb, Clevo wins again
GPU (9800M GTX vs 8800M GTX/9800M GT) Toshiba wins, but not by much
HDD (debatable) Probably Clevo winning again with one HDD being 7,200RPM
Turbo memory (2gb for Clevo, none for toshiba) its not much of a big deal, but its a little bit of icing. Clevo wins
Upgradability Clevo Wins hands down, i am sure you wont be upgrading that toshiba's GPU in a couple years, or its processor, with the clevo, you will be able to.

Final verdict, Clevo kills the toshiba for only 100 euros more!

In a couple years you won't be upgrading a clevo either, at least not without a motherboard replacement, The Clevo is User upgradeable, meaning you can upgrade the system, you just need all the necessary parts, the mxm slots aren't all they are cracked up to be.

Exactly, its user upgradable, be it CPU, GPU or MOBO, its a hell of alot more upgradeable than the toshiba. Even if one has to buy a new MOBO GPU and CPU for their Clevo, they will still be getting it for cheaper than buying a whole new laptop...you're pretty much guaranteed to be able to upgrade to the next 1 or 2 MXM III cards, and the way things are going, Nvidia will be packing a lot more power into "Clevo modified" MXM III cards a few years into the future.

lol, I'm sure all those that bought the Sager 5792(clevo 570RU) with a 7950 or 8700 where thinking the same thing, hoping to upgrade to a 8800 GTX, but we all know how that turned out, you needed motherboard upgrade as well. Just don't hold your breath hoping this time might be different.

    small point to point out:
The Clevo 570TU(Sager 5796) is DDR3 but only to 4 GB the Clevo D901C(sager 9262) is 8 GB, just a minor detail i just noticed.

If it's anything like the BestBuy model forget it.
I am not talking about the specs just the built quality, it feels really cheap and the touch pad feels really bad.
The built quality will not come close to the Sager.
Don't even get me started about the color....UGH!

Agreed, One of the few reasons I'm am looking at Sager, I just don't get why 90% of gaming laptops look like its a toy, is it that hard to make it look professional?

Regardless if someone has to buy a new mobo to upgrade the gpu, it'll still be saving some money as opposed to buying a whole new laptop........

As for the 8gb, it was posted on the portuguese site he posted, said expandable to 8gb guess its an error or there was a modification to the laptop they are using.

Interesting arguments. From a technical point of view I'm not sure there is a clear winner. Indeed whoever argues for a clear winner is for sure blinded by a fanboy mentallity IMHO. People on this forum "salivate" after the release of the 9800M GTX and Quad Cores Mobile etc etc, once it is found on some other laptop we can't argue that is not really that good becouse it is not Clevo.

Let's keep our minds clear. High end gaming laptops are not longer a niche market supplied by boutique shops. What this means IMHO is that prices will drop in Europe at least otherwise burn, or at least normalize. What I mean by this is that prices will not be so much different from shop to shop like it is now in Europe.

By the way, the difference of 100€ was against M570TU config that is clearly below the X300spec besides the resolution of the screen (eventually weight), but if you go to Kobalt and make a config with the 9800M GT (still weaker), with the P9600 and a HDD of 500GB it will be around 2600€.

By the way, in case people don't know 2x320GB in RAID 0 is much faster then one 200GB at 7200RPM so don't argue that one HDD at 7200RPM is indeed an advantage in terms of performance.

    Trance
PS: I will not argue looks about Clevo, and or how robust the material is, but by just looking at it the first time I saw a M570RU it looked no as polished as others but that didn't stop me (I'm a techy). Definitly not as polished as the Toshiba models and that for the "common" man is what makes a difference. Anyway let's wait for the reviews (3dMarks CrysisMarks et all).

I am sure the specs and performance will both be pretty close between the two it's just that the Toshiba feels cheap IMO compared to a Clevo.I was originaly interested in this laptop when Bestbuy had the 9800 GTX on there website, went down to check it out but was dissapointed in just the overall feel for it, almost felt like a toy.Look I'm not trying to say Sager is much better then Toshiba and all that and get all the fanboys riled up it's just the Clevo/Sager laptops offer a much higher build quality.

When compared to the d901c I agree with you IKAS (but I payed 3000€ for mine). But when compared with to the M570RU (orange trim) of my dad is not that clear to me.

It does feal like a toy :) IMHO too. But then again I see people paying "large" amounts of money to make their laptops look like a toy throught paint :)

    Trance
PS: For the record I don't like the looks of it, neither I like Clevos. Actually the only PCs I liked the looks of are from Apple and once and awhile a desktop such as the new Blackbird from HP (some DELL's also look nice) but never got one. Maybe I'm not much into the Asian taste for looks but for tech :)

I agree with you there, to me that looks like a fine computer. In the 17" market there are many competitive notebooks out there so its worth a search, especially in Europe.
In the 15" market the things are still a bit tight but I'm hoping they'll get some new models out and make a nice competition and drive the prices down a bit too.
About the argument of upgradability of the clevo I'm not sure that's such a big issue, I mean not everyone plans to open up their rig as soon as something new comes out just for the sake of 100 points more in the 3dMark.
The only real difference is in the screens, especially if you are going to do more than gaming on it. I mean of course a big res is good for gaming too but I find it more useful when trying to have many things opened on the screen at the same time :). So in the end is up to you to decide if the screen upgrade between toshiba and clevo is worth the difference in price ;).

Getting custom paint is one of the biggest waste of money, I am not willing to pay hundreds of extra dollars( but some do look pretty cool) just to have my laptop painted in my favorite color.
I am not saying that the Toshiba is not a good deal, it's just not for me, like I said before I was really considering buying this laptop but then I saw it in person....
I think a color blind person designed its color scheme, and the flames,C'mon.
If Toshiba had a option of maybe offering another color or even one with just a black case or something, they would have a lot more sales.
I do think that a lot of people are turned off by just the color and over the top flame look on it lid.
Hey some people like it but like the saying goes "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

    Wow!

That says enough about different taste for different folks, because the 570 series seems far from ‘Toy like’. I do agree…some take it to the limit with the paint mods. I just wanted a black laptop, since it seems that’s what I want to do with every notebook I get (paint it black). It’s nice to have a black one now, and I don’t even want to change the orange trim, as it adds a nice flavor to the black. :)

    PS

That's taking into account you meant your dad's 570 felt like a toy?

I think you were referring to the Q feeling like a toy, sorry to bother. ;)

If you do not want the flash of the Toshiba X300, and have your heart set on the Toshiba, you guys can always get the Toshiba Qosmio F55 which pretty much is the same as the X300 except it is in 15.4" and only comes in black. ALso they are pretty easy to upgrade. If you go to the Toshiba forum, you will see that someone has already disassembled a X300. I have a friend that has the F55 and he was able to get to the CPU and GPU in about 5 minutes. He just undid the screws at the bottom of the case, popped out the trim for the keyboard, then took 2 screws holding the keyboard, unplugged the keyboard and pretty much was at the CPU and GPU. Also the GPU seems to be a modular card. So it *may* be possible to upgrade it from the stock 9700M GTS to the 9800M GTX. I hope this helps. God Bless :)

I was referring to the X300. The M570TU at first sight looks less polished when looking at it in real life IMHO. For the "common" man that IMHO makes a difference although indeed artificial from a content mindset. Nevertheless I suspect that price will play a big role on this one. This and avoiding the hassles of convincing the parents that Clevo & Co are indeed as good as the big brands if not better.

I'd have to see the inside of the Qosmio X300 to compare. I can buy Compals with nearly the same specs as a Clevo that are $800 more expensive, but the Compals use inferior materials, inadequate cooling (a BIG issue) and/or not the best cooling design. Quality should be the first thing that you look for in a notebook and until you can determine said aspect, you can't really comment on a comparison :) (I can't even find an underside picture of the X300)

Other than that, looks wise... I might shoot myself if someone forced me to use that shiny, red notebook with flames all over it. That picture also looks CG, and not of the real machine.

It has been discussed many times and the last thread I've read which had contributions from several resellers as well as links to performance reviews concluded that there is no difference between the 8800GTX and the 9800GT.

In fact, two NBR members one with the 8800GTX and one with the 9800GT each posted both game and 3DMark06 results, they were within single digits of each other.

My own 9800GT performs the same and gives the same scores as my 901C did with the 8800GTX. The video card distinction between the Clevo and the Toshiba is mute.

As for the HDD's, RAID has performance and security advantages at the sacrifice of capacity. With only 2 drives, your RAID options are limited, unlike with the 901C. For the minutiae performance advantage the RAID offers, I would rather have capacity. For the shortened battery life and the heat from a 2nd HDD not contributing to capacity, I'd not look at it as a selling point for Toshiba.

The Toshiba is a main-stream computer----meaning it is not designed and built with the consumer having his/her fingers rummaging through the inside. They don't account for it during the construction process and most certainly would void the warranty if it was discovered Mr. Smith had "upgraded" his CPU. This is not the case with Clevo notebooks. That said, I doubt Toshiba is using an MXM GPU so what ever percentage value exists that my M570TU will support some future nVidia card is 100% greater than the percentage value the Toshiba will accept that same upgrade.

When I was adding the fingerprint reader to an HP I have, not one person at HP in any of the departments I called could provide me with the part numbers to what I needed. All they would do is ask for the serial number, then politely tell me my unit didn't come with the FP reader. I learned I was dealing with automatons incapable of independent thought from the hive mind. I had to dismantle my other HP to get part numbers that later had to be ordered from a 3rd party web site because HP told me they are not servicable or available.

I suspect a similiar experience with Toshiba could be expected trying to augment its hardware.

I do not know why electronics are so costly in europe but it has been this way for many years, hence why I bring 110/220 capable things with us when my wife and I visit her family (and leave them there for future use).

Perhaps you can do the same if you have family here? The price difference is almost enough to cover air fare.

No one is saying its not good because its not clevo, i have not heard one person say that in this thread. BTW i didnt see the toshiba was in raid, if so then obviously its hard drive config is better, but in the long run, i still believe you will be able to do more with the clevo, and it will probably last a lot longer physically, i could be wrong though.

The Toshiba has brand new chip sets, has eSATA and HDMI, etc. Its processor is weak and its build quality isn't that good. Also the keyboard feels sticky.
and I have yet to find a place that allows you to customize one. The Toshiba website only sells the base model.

Hehe, it really looks you should ask the same question on the Toshiba forums, all you get here is the what if you want to open it up and do this and that you won't get anywhere with this :). People don't understand you might be looking for a gaming computer with no intention what so ever to upgrade and tear it apart. Other than that it sure looks ugly that Toshiba :).

The Toshiba has a stupid design. Are you supposed to keep your palm on top of the speakers when gaming? ***...idiotic design.
