So I just got my NP8690. I love it so far..plan on doing a review of AET solutions aka Reflex Notebooks (where I purchased from) soon. Anyway...one problem so far:
I have, like other members here, set my GPU to underclock to 200/300 on startup wtih AMD GPU Clock Tool. I also have a default clock button for gaming (back to 700/1000). I actually really like how I set it up, I have 1 taskbar button for UC and one for Default clocks (see pic)
However, switching between these two settings causes violent screen flickering for a second, and on one occaison, I got some intense artifacting and had to restart (like I said, I was switching from underclocked to default, no OCing)
Any thoughts? Do other people experience this when using AMD GPU Tool?

Ya, the program isn't perfect and that happens to me sometimes too. Nothing you can do at the moment.

Would you say its a danger? I got whole screen artifacting and had to reboot..no visual..

@Classic - when I change settings using a shortcut which causes the program to open, execute and close, the rapid opening and closing of the program's white background screen results in what amounts to a screen flash (probably the same as your "violent screen flickering"), but I have never experienced any post-flash artifacting or other screen anomalies, much less one serious enough to require a restart.

Even if I just change clocks from within the program, the screen flickers...its not a window opening, the whole screen goes black, twice, and then recovers, similar to when you install a new video driver. -

Well, I see that too. Whenever I click "Set Clocks" after changing settings, there is a brief flicker. I think that is probably a natural byproduct of the card resetting itself to the new clocks, but it is brief, without any continuing artifacts. I wonder if it is driver related, meaning whether it is worse with some Catalyst versions than others.

Some suggest that the flickering is caused from changing from high to low as opposed to gradually. Think about how Powermizer works, it does not jump straight from high to low or vice versa, it does it slightly gradually.
I suggest you try using 3 different sets of clock rates as opposed to just two i.e instead of going from high to low you go from high, to medium and then to low.
The issue could also be due to the actual clock being too low. You should try different ones since not all GPU's of the same model may work well with the clocks.
