Is the quality bad? Is the volume low?

I personally don't have any problems with the headphone jack. More symptom information would be useful.

What problems are you having? Did you register and enable your THX software? Did you change the headphone jack output option to "external speakers" in the Realtek software? Those two options will make a big difference.

Make sure the realtek drivers are installed & the thx thing is activated.

Also, try clicking on the sound icon in the tray and in the options set it to stereo instead of 5.1 or 7.1 if it isn't already.

I ve enabled the THX software and realtek drivers, but how to change the headphone jack output option to "external speakers" in the Realtek ?

You should be able to set the default playback device in Windows.

Also, you can adjust some settings in the Realtek audio manager by looking for the "Device Advanced Settings" link in the upper right corner.

I have the same problem as you. The headphone jack quality is pretty bad (I really do think its defective because its terrible) My solution was I bought a $6 USB audio adapter... just plug in your headphones into this adapter and the sound is incredible with it. Yes, it sucks that you have to bring this adapter around and it occupies a USB port but it's so much better than not having one. OR you could get a bluetooth headset that will connect to your laptop- this may work too.

i also adjust the settins in Realtek but still not as good .... anyway... if tht s the way it is ... i ll hv to accept it... but the notebook is still awesome to me :D

and i think i ll follow what chrisxnguyen said which to get a USB audio adapter , in order to hv an improvement in sound quality for my headphone.

again, thanks so much for the replies :)

How is a bad audio out acceptable on a brand new laptop? If it is something you plan on using I'd get it fixed. No good reason it should be broken.

Worst case you can RMA so the problem is solved before you spend extra unless its really a hassle for some reason.

I don't think it's broken. The headphone jacks on these machines are simply low quality. I haven't really noticed it much myself, but there are tons of people complaining of the poor quality. It's kind of a shame that such an amazing machine has such substandard headphone jack and webcam :( Oh well!

Maybe you should pick up a set of USB headphones. Sounds like that's what I'm going to do.

I just encountered a problem that might help the headphone thing. I presonally use BT headphone, so it might just be the case for BT. The sound downgraded when i use my headphone. What i did was open the THX program and on audo device selection select speakers rather than letting the computer decide. After that, the sound was much more clear.

I wouldn't even bother with integrated sound if I were you. If you are even a bit serious about your music and sound quality I would recommend you get and external usb dac which bypasses the internal sound card altogether. I use the Nuforce udac2 and the quality difference is very noticeable with any decent headphones.
