I also wanted the 9800m graphics and the 500gb HDD, but didn't need the HDD enough to wait. Since people are saying the 9800m could be another 4-6 months, that is too long to wait even if it is more than 10% faster.

Nice laptop! Congrats!

when are the 500gb expected? I'm looking to buy within july, and am going for a raid 5 3X 320gb right now... I would rather have a few of those as a 500gb
I would have the same setup, although a quadro 3600m if it's out in time
Is setup of dual-boot easy? would I have to install programs for each OS, well yes probably right? -
9800m graphics are coming out in less than a month's time. It should be available for the 9262 soon.
-
The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
Welcome to the Family.
-
noice specs dude welcome to the 9262 brethren
-
What makes you say this?
Are you sure?
If so I will put a hold on my purchase.
Chris. -
Oh god, if I see one more thread about a new 9262 owner I will(pic removed
)
-
Personally, I doubt it... read the 9800 thread and decide for yourself.

Deathwinger is unfortunately incorrect about future GPU's for the 9262. At this time there are no plans of the 9800M for the 9262.

Which means, if I've still any skill at reading between the lines, that Clevo is in the early to middle stages of designing the replacement for the D901C, which will probably support Nehalem class processors and whatever the high-end notebook GPU from NVidia is in about a years' time. Makes sense; the D901C has pushed the current chipset architecture fairly close to its limits and, with a brand-new architecture coming out with Nehalem in the near future (sayonara, FSB, and no, I'm not going to forecast any sort of date, other than, perhaps, sometime in the 21st Century), there simply isn't enough time left to make it worthwhile to run through another revision cycle with the existing D901C setup.
-
Works for me.
Look forward to my new computer.
Chris. -
@shys
No
plz dont say that... theres still a chance there will be another mobo revision on this baby to maybe support the new 280M's or the Nehalem.... i KNOW there is...
-
I'm just reading the metaphoric tea leaves, here, so I really don't know squat, except that "there are no plans" to put 9800s into the D901C - sorry. In terms of Nehalem, though, the new architecture is sufficiently different that, even if they designed a new motherboard to fit the current case, it'd still be so different that, for all intents and purposes, it'd be a new computer - it would be interesting to see if such a retrofit could be done, but I seriously doubt if Sager/Clevo would sell it for cost.
I think the best motto for a notebook fiend is - live for today. You've got the best right now, enjoy it, and don't spoil that enjoyment by fixating too much on what's going to be coming up next - that way you'll be pleasantly surprised when it does show up.

That's why I wanted the Q9550 and 8800mGTX SLI. It's a bunch of a $ but I plan on keeping this rig a minimum of 3 years and don't really like to deal with laptop upgrades. All I wanted was something that will multi-task well and something that should be able to still play new games at lower rez a couple years from now. The quad is of little use right now but even having a early quad in a couple years may be a big deal when more programs support quad. I could have gone with an M1730 (which I like the looks of a lot) but I would be stuck with a core 2 duo. M1730 should see the Montevina refresh within a few months but even the best mobile quad (QX9300) is only a 2.5ghz clock.

Just arrived yesterday,
LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!!!
However, I have to get used to windows vista, so that is less enjoyable.
Right now I am trying to get this machine to recognize my other computers and printers on my home network.
Having trouble with that.
Chris. -
Ya im still getting used to vista but after about 3 days playing with your new laptop you get used to to it. I also had trouble setting up a home network.. still have trouble. AT first i somehow got it enabled and then it stopped working agian .
-
If your other machines run XP, you'll have to install the Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder on each of the XP machines in order to get the _Vista machine to see them. The Microsoft knowledgebase article on the issue is KB922120 and the software itself can be downloaded from here.
The whys and wherefors for this are explained in KB922120. -
Where Vista should improve , XP shines already.
I could never get a network to share a printer , and tried various sugestions and got even a networking specialist on it.
His exact words :
"Vista is like my wife. Pretty on the outside, but you get sick of her moving too slow "
Just ordered 9262 from xoticpc!!
