3dmark06 was run in 1280x1024 standard settings (free demo). Score was 8950. This score was after cleaning up the computer (registry, temp files, service/background programs), uninstalling programs. Using the stock drivers that came with the laptop as there are no new drivers on nVidia's site for the 9800m GT and I am not familiar enough with laptopvideo2go.com to actually try it.
I recently installed laptopvideo2go.com drivers (version 177.79) which bumped my score up to 9050. I believe that is the best available driver right now as the 177.41 increased the 3dmark06 score to 8980 and the other drivers are sorely rated.

In Game Benchmarks These are rough guesses based on what I have seen in Fraps because I can't find where it saves the detailed benchmarks.

Seems to be running at faster than 2.26 Ghz. More like 2.3Ghz![]()
Silent Mode Silent mode makes the fans VERY quiet at idle. There is still some fan noise depending on what you are doing. If using 1 or 2 programs it will be mostly quiet. More than 2 programs and it it will be moderately noisy. It all depends on what you are doing. The More you are doing, the less sound reduction you will recieve.
Example: right now I am installing games, downloading files, and listening to music while browsing internet. With Silent Mode on, it lowers the sound by very little. No point in using it really. I think it's because I am installing games onto the Hard drive which heats up very easily and can't run with Silent Mode
Also, I just looked at RM clock and if you are on high performance and you turn on Silent Mode, the fan speed decreases but so does the CPU clocks. They go from 2.3Ghz to 1.7Ghz for me. Too lazy to post screen shots.
Another thing, my silent mode seems to be whack. When I select normal mode, it goes quiet. When I select silent mode it gets loud. I think it's reversed or something
-
Press the Silent mode.
-
Oh thanks. Yeah I tried that before but it didn't work but now it's working. Made it silent thanks! -
Silent mode? how does that work? At best it makes the fan less effective, right?
-
Turns off the fan and downclocks everything is my guess.
-
Nope, does not downclock called sager. Also i asked them about the fn+1 stuff said it was not on the 5796. Dreidel is silent mode actually silent?!
-
If you're right, I'm surprised the laptop doesn't catch on fire.
-
If Minkang is right, there is going to be an outbreak of library fires in the coming months...
-
Silent mode makes it silent when not doing much with the computer. When under a small load say a few apps open, the silent mode makes it RELATIVELY quiet. Still some noise however.
-
(Unless you're a woman. The Super man logo might be throwing me off.) -
According to what the tech guy told me, as soon as the temp sensors reach a point the fans will start to kick up again.
EDIT: Can you go ahead and dl RM Clock and see if it works. This is the main tool in undervolting and battery increase. -
After tweaking my Windows Vista by getting rid of services/background programs, I got a 3dmark06 score of 8950.
Seems alright to me.
That score was run at standard 1280x1024 resolution (the free to download 3dmark06 demo.)
Laptop is running great. If anyone wants any ingame benchmarks let me know. I have the following games:
F.E.A.R.
Battlefield 2
Unreal Tournament 3
Team Fortress 2
Day of Defeat: Source -
how are the framerates for UT3? I love that game!
-
What drivers were you using, and check to see if RM Clock works please
-
-
-
-
guess the DDR3 and 1066 FSB are not helping at all.
-
Why does 3DMark 06 say that you have a pentium III? Doesn't recognize penryn?
-
my guess is nvidia will be releasing drivers for the 9000m series soon to optimize performance since their dont seem to be any drivers yet. we might just have to wait and see.
-
Check the temps on everything with HWMonitor with and without Silent Mode and report back please.
-
at medium fan sppeed, can it be used in library without much attraction from other people
-
-
i want 9800m gtx to score 11500 at least but notebookcheck thinks otherwise
-
-
Dreidel you can get/use RM Clock and install it from here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=235824
Just go to step 2, where you try and get it so that the program detects your proc/core speed etc.. This program is what you UV your CPU so you get more battery life, less heat etc.. Installing the program wont do anything just wanted you to see if the program would detect the Montevina chipset so I know if it works or not. Probably not but hoping it does. -

-
One last thing. For the games they benchmarked on notebookcheck.com, this was the difference in FPS they found in each game with the same settings:
Card 9800m gtx 9800m gt
Crysis 22 21
Enemy Territories 80 76
Half Life 2 Ep 2 68 64
Supreme Commander 55 53
World in Conflict 31 30
Worth the extra money? -

Not to be rude but you should really edit your first post if no one else has posted since your last to include your latest thoughts rather than double, triple, or quadruple posting. I'm not sure that it is a rule here, but I know of some really strict forums who ban people for repeatedly breaking that rule (I don't think that is necessary however).
I'm just letting you know for future reference. It is just a matter of proper forum etiquette.
EDIT:
I just checked the forum rules and they mention nothing of the sort, so you can probably ignore me. The other forum that I have spent alot of time on however is really strict about that. -
Theres an FPS chart on this page.

what do you mean half the cards? I dont know where they got these benchmarks from but Im obviously making the assumption they are real. If they are bogus then thats just lame.
Plus im just trying to compare the 9800m gtx to the gt not to the 8800m gtx. we already know the 9800m gt and 8800m gtx are basically equivalent. -
For all those graphics cards to be tested on a q6600 "desktop processor", they would all have had to be tested on the np9262. The 9700m gt, 9700m gts and 9800m gts aren't even available on for the np9262.
-
The page says that "These benchmarks were conducted with high end notebooks (quad-core desktop CPU)." I dont know what notebooks they used but its from a German site not American.
I dunno dude. I dont know if theyre right or not. Im just reporting what notebookcheck.com says. Seemed to be a reliable source. -
-
What affect would the DDR3 RAM have on the speed of the system.
Would it just make loading times for programmes just generally faster? -
But it really doesn't matter, if you're buying the 5796, you can only choose DDR3 -
Dredeil did you get the 64bit driver that was at the bottom of the guide?
-
Okay it Installed but what do you want me to take screenshots of? -
Ok, when you open the program there should be a tab called CPU INFO see if your CPU comes up with the right speed etc... If not go into the advanced CPU Tab and then on the bottom right corner there should be a choice for auto detect, desktop, mobile. Select mobile. and then go back to the cpu info tab and see if everything comes up.
-
HAHAHAHAHA Intel Pentium III... that's great. Also, "Generic VGA", huh.
Wonder what kind of numbers the system will pull in with newer drivers... -
thats cool that the core speeds are already a little overclocked... lucky you!
-
Dreidel any luck with what I mentioned above?
Also just out of curiosity did you get the Centrino 2 Sticker? -
-
Gah doesnt seem to be recognizing the clocks either
No RM Clock for me for a while NOOOOOOOOOOO.
There goes 1 1/2 hours of battery
Thanks for looking it up
Just recieved my Sager NP5796
