Yes, that is what i had to choose on my old 5793

    Crosses fingers.

Question about silent mode, when you enable it does something come up saying that its enabled and then disabled when you press it again?

Okay so I tried it and any time its on the temps don't change much because what happens is the fan speed decreases but so does the clock speeds of the CPU. The RAM/GPU might downclock as well but I have not clocked the speeds before/after with a program.

    did you try mobile settings?
And the cpu downclocks itself because you are not doing any intensive task, so is the GPU. Fire up a game in silent mode and see what happens. That will make everything run at stock speeds.

Stealth Mode does not do anything to the GPU or RAM, only the CPU.

im perplexed as to why its reading it as a standard VGA, the benchmark should know what gpu u have in and base the bench on that. Personally i think its looking at the Intel Generic GPU within the PM45.

there is no IGP on these chipsets. thats why we can't do the hybrid power thing.

Im guessing that SIlent Mode wont work when your doing an power intensive task as it wont be able to downclock the CPU, or will it try and do it?

Every time I try to turn on HWMonitor with Silent Mode on, the Fan kicks in so it doesn't matter.

    Man, you are hilarious.
Post 2 screenshots of HWMonitor, with silent mode on and silent mode off.
Close down other apps if needed so that the fan won`t kick in.
But I want to see if there is any improvement over the 5793 at all.

The mobile setting doesn't change anything but I will post pics anyway.

    Thanks I try.

First off, read the original post. I state my Silent Mode is not fuctioning properly in that when I turn it on, the fans kick in. And when I turn Normal Mode on, the fans turn off for a couple minutes and then they turn on.

Also, even if it did work, what I was trying to say was that once I get the fans to turn off, once I open HWMonitor the fans turn on anyway. All other programs are closed. Silent Mode just ain't what it is cracked up to be (for me anyway).

can you put it through some fps tests in cod4 and crisis or any other game you have. + whats your battery life in full power and in powersave mode?

also, do you guys think that a 2.40GHz processor is good enough for the 9800M GT, or will it bottleneck it? my rough config will be WUXGA 17', p8600 2.40GHz, 9800M GT, 4gb DDR3 RAM, 2GB turbo memory, 200GB 7200RPM HD with vista premium 64-bit. this will about $2300 with taxes and shipping... how do you guys think this will run?

I put some benchmarks on front page. I don't have crysis or cod4. Also, you could get the P8400 and the 9800m GT would be the bottleneck in your system.

    Hi Dreidel, :)

Do you remember if your IDLE Temp readings that you took were those right after you turned on your laptop ... have you happened to take IDLE Temps with Fans at Normal at the laptop Start, then 15 minutes later again laptop at IDLE opertaion ... meaning no Apps running at all ...

Just curious if the nVIDIA graphic card heats up on it's own without running any applications whatsoever!?!?

    Thanks,
    G! :)

All GPUs heat up by their own, especially if you`re running Vista.
    That is because
1)the unit itself is used for rendering, and
2)adjacent components heat up and transfer heat.

What are you talking about? That the 9800m GT is too slow for the P8400?

ok guys, ive been looking for a long time now, deciding what laptop to get.

    i was really set on the sager 5796 that would be about $2300 until i saw this;

    Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 (2.26GHz/ 3MB L2/ 1066MHz FSB)
    Intel PM45 Express Chipset
    17-inch WUXGA (1920×1200) display
    4GB DDR3-1066 memory
Nvidia GeForce 9800M-GTS with 512MB GDDR3 dedicated memory
    200GB 7200RPM hard drive
8X DVD Multiformat burner with Labelflash
    1.3 megapixel camera
    HDMI 1.2, eSATA
    5-in-1 media card reader
    9-cell Li-ion battery
    Weight: 9.2 pounds

the new gateway - shipping this august. it has almost the same specs as the sager, with DDR3 and all, with a 9800M GTS. the only week thing is the 2.26 GHz processor but this thing is only $1400!!!!!! with the GTS, i dont see how its still 400 less. it should still be a good video card

so my question is, how can they sell this thing so cheap?? did they completly cut corners? i still want to get the sager, but this is just weird

    Hi tornbacchus,

    1) Can you post the URL to your Gateway find ... Please!

    2) Does it have an option to upgrade the P8400 to P8600 ... should be a minimal $ cost but the 2.4GHz ... probably would make a bit of difference.

    Thanks,
    G! :)

About 2-2.5 hours can be attained with the proper settings.

Gonwk , the 9800M GTS is weaker than the 9800M GT :) Judging by figures, we`re talking 33% here.

well its not even out on their site now, its just around some sites. its going to be in bestbuy in mid august. i havent heard of being able to upgrade the processor, but im sure you would be able to when more info comes out. just search google for the gateway P-7811FX and you'll get info from sites.

ehh not bad 1650x1080 sliders on 4 for texture and world detail. plays around 50+ usually obv wen in a 20+ player server though in that game it does drop into the low 40s for extended periods of time but never seems unplayable
