Just spoke to a Sager rep and he suggested the 9280 over the 9850 for games....help?

Whoah....was *THIS* close to placing my order of the 9850, when a rep from Sager told me based on feedback he's received from customers, the 9280 is recommended and generally outperforms the 9850. He said certainly some games will do better on the 9850 but emphasized in general the performance nod goes to the 9280.

Now I'm really confused. I will be gaming 90% of the time on whichever notebook I decide to get, with CoD4/5/6, Crysis and Resident Evil being the games dominating my time for at least the next couple of months. One thing that took me by surprise was when he told me the 9850 has an Intel Centrino Mobile processor. I thought it had a desktop processor. So the CPU inside the 9280 is a desktop Intel i7 Core, while the one in the 9850 is a Centrino mobile Core2Duo is this correct?....very interesting.

So which one should I REALLY get guys? Please be honest. I'm going all out with this purchase and don't want to screw this up.

    Thanks :)

You probably confused the rep and made him think you cared more about cpu power. The 9850 will be better for the games you listed.

Play crysis with a single GTX280m vs SLI, 17fps difference between the two @ all on very high and native res,
Get the 9850, no competition for games, use the 9280 for CAD :)

Well, some games get no or very little performance boost out of SLI graphics cards, so some games could conceivably run better on the 9280. But even a 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo is enough CPU power to max most games, so in most cases the 9850 will game better.

Also, it gives you 3 hard drive bays, and between the upgradeability of the CPU and the 2 MXM3.0 slots... what if you could later get a QX9300 with 2x GTX380m's in SLI? Not likely, but what if? ;)

They weigh the same, or close to it. I've noticed, however, 17" fits snugly but comfortably in the average backpack. I'd imagine 18.4" would not. I also imagine it would take up desk space bordering on uncomfortable, but that could just be because I'm used to 17".

They offer the QX9300 as their most expensive CPU option. I'm assuming this is the fastest mobile Quad processor on the market. But they also have a Core 2 Duo Processor T9900 which I assume has only 2 cores and is $560 cheaper. Money isn't really an issue but I'd still like to know which of these processors is recommended if I go with the 9850?

Since all you're doing is gaming, I'd actually recommend just going with the dual core T9900. There are only a few games that would "require" the punch of a quad (GTA IV and Dragon Age:Origins come to mind)
