Kaby Lake (7700k) Supported BIOS for P750DM-G? * $5 Reward *

I am very surprised that Clevo has not offered a BIOS that supports Kaby Lake, but then again... It is what it is and so here I am.

I have seen the baked v2 BIOS for this machine, but no one will respond with info as to whether or not it supports Kaby Lake processors.

I am biased toward Prema's BIOS mods since they are always flawless, however, these are desperate times. Considering Prema is super busy with new machines and such, I don't feel there will be time alotted for this in the near future and I need a CPU upgrade ASAP. I'd rather not upgrade from my i5 6500 to the i7 6700k when I know it's possible to run the i7 7700k with a supporting BIOS.

So please, if anyone can offer information that will help make this happen, I will appreciate it greatly and offer a $5+ worth of Bitcoin.

Unless your going for a top end overclock e.g 4900mhz + your not going to see much in the way of a performance improvement over skylake.

With the 8 series i7's out now a lot of people will be going that way, if I were in your shoes I'd look for a decent price on a second hand 6700k and slap it in and enjoy!

 

What's your skylake chip like? Is it a dud?

 

Thank you for asking Meager. It's actually working better with Premas patch, but the frequency is all over the place when the GPU is under heavy load in the 3D programs I use. VIP3D in particular crashes like crazy. When I contacted support for the software they suggested upgrading my CPU. I bought a 6700 from craigslist today for $200. It appears to have been well cared for. I'll post back here with the results. This computer in general has been glitchy and slower than my P150sm-a that had a 4810mq. I'm hoping this fixes the problems, but I feel that drivers may be to blame.

 

It should be stable even under skylake and it's likely kaby lake would do the same thing as it seems like a settings issue.

 

I now have the 6700k i7 installed and though it's running faster, it's still having the same kind of issues that the 6500 i5 was having. Any advice on this will be greatly appreciated.

 

Give this a try.

In the bios under Advanced -> CPU Configuration make sure hardware Pstates are disabled. Then disable Speedstep, if that eliminates your cpu throttling under high gpu load - you can then use throttlestop to adjust multipliers to renable turbo.

I also had crazy cpu throttling when the gpu was loaded on my prema'd P75 doing the above sorted it.

Thank you for the advice. I will give it a try. I just did a fresh windows 10 install and in the process of installing all my software. If it's not resolved I will definitely give that a try.
