So I have a D900F with the following specs. i7 960 3.2, GTX 480M, 6GB DDR3, 500GB. It still plays most games fine. Should I sell it and move to Sandybridge or keep it for another year or two?

What about possible processor upgrades? Go to a six core i7 970 or i7 980x? Would I be seeing any improvements on games like BF3 and Skyrim switching from a Quad core to a Six Core?

Any interesting mods that I should do?

I don't think there is a point in upgrading your processor. It is very capable and I can't think of any games that are able to utilize more than 4 cores, so there's not much FPS to be gained from that department.

If you're adventourous and want to get more FPS in games you might want to go for this solution: Clevo D900F

However the 480m is very capable, so the increase might not be worth it.

My advice would be to keep the machine if you like it, and perhaps wait for the next line of gpu's and see if any of them will work with the D900F. If not, it's still a great machine for the next two years or so.

    i will recommand upgrade to i7 970/980/980x/990x xeon x5680/5690/5687
32nm is much better than 45nm besides performance...
gtx485m now can run on d900f(480m capatible one), just a modded bios flash needed

I always recommend selling and getting newer hardware. Your case please wait till ivy and 28nm , thats bare min. investing in a new sys right with your specs is not recommended. I would highly recommend till Q2 2012 if not haswell! :)

You wouldn't see much improvement in those games if you upgrade the CPU, because it is the GPU that is the bottleneck in gaming, not the CPU.
