Keep my MSI MS-16GA or buy a Clevo W350ETQ?

I'm debating whether or not to return my MSI MS-16GA and purchase a clevo W350ETQ? I like the MSI but I think the Clevo looks better built and more solid. When picking up the MSI I feel my fingers almost breaking the vents because of the plastic build quality. Also, the Clevo W350ETQ seems to allow you to add on a better screen for $75 more. I don't know how it compares to the screen on my MSI though. The Clevo states that it is a matte type 95% NTSC color gamut. Does anyone know how that would compare to my current screen? I love IPS and high quality screens (I know it's not an IPS) but if it's better than the MSI then it would really sway me. I also like the fact that the Clevo has an 8 Cell battery since I find the battery life of my MSI to be pretty crappy. Another thing that I really like about the Clevo is the ability to use two 2.5" drives. I was in the process of buying an msata SSD for the MSI since it doesn't allow two 2.5" drives but that would be a lot more hassle since I already have two 2.5" drives to use. Overall though, I am still very happy with the MSI.

Is there anything I should know about the two?

    Thanks for the help!

reported on here by a member that msi will invalidate your warranty if opened even if just cleaning the fans out (depending on reseller).

Clevo are built like tanks and are user upgradable so no problems opening to upgrade or clean.

ive got the standard matte screen and its bloody brilliant with vibrant bright colours and its blown every other screen ive ever had out the window so im guessing the 95% gamut screen will be even better.

Do you know what the color gamut range is for the standard display? Also, can you verify that it has two 2.5" slots for two hard drives? This is a huge plus for me if so.

Thanks for the quick reply. I take it that you thoroughly enjoy your clevo and have no regrets? Any issues that you think I should be aware of?

Return it, then get a clevo W370ET!!
    - More powerful GPU
    - NO GLOSSY STUFF (amen to that)
    - A LOT easier to clean
    - User-serviceable parts (CPU, RAM, all of that)
    - Cheaper price
    - VGA button, lets you switch manually to the Intel 4000 GPU to save battery
    - Gorgeous screen (I have mine with matte and it rules!)

i dont know the model at all but the system spec says:
for a 15" you get one main hard drive and one (optional) msata drive but i think this still runs on sataII and not III and then you have the option of the caddy to swap out the dvd tray for another hard drive which also will be sataII

im not sure what the gamut range is on the standard screen.

what part of the world are you from as the resellers can advise on full spec

Opening an MSI does not void your warranty...

Most of the MSI barebones have shoddy workmanship, though. I wouldn't bother with them. The GT60/GT70 is superior. If these are your only options, then OK: go for the Clevo.

thats not whats been reported on here. a member contacted their reseller and he was told that opening the base would void his warranty.
i checked this out with xotic rep and his reply was:
thats why i said in my original post depending on reseller.

depending on the display model the gamut range of the standard built-in screen ranges from 60 to 72% iirc :)

i have to agree with mrdj concerning the screen: ive got the standard matte option and its the best screen ive had so far in a laptop :)

i dont have either machines but as a clevo fanboy id say: come to the dark side!

hey there, I'm from the USA, thanks for the answer!

It seems like from this review: Review Schenker XMG A522 (Clevo W350ET barebones) Notebook - NotebookCheck.net Reviews

it supports two 2.5" hard drives. Can anyone confirm this?

I've made up my mind and I'm going ahead and ordering the Clevo!

it does say that but the second drive could of been in the disc drive with a caddy. sadly it doesnt say.

i dont think there are any clevo 15" laptops that have full size drives as they would just not fit.
i will hunt down the user manual for you.

Yeah to be honest it is pretty amazing considering my Dell M4700 didn't even have two 2.5" bays. Definitely seals the deal. Does anyone know where the best place to order the clevo is?

If you want better build quality and more bays you can look into the 16F3 barebone too.

    Replacable graphics and 1x2.5" gen3, 1x2.5" gen2 and 1xoptical drive gen2.

Hmmm, the only place I see it sold for wants an extra $165 for 95% gamut screen. And I'm not a big fan of the older gtx 670. Do you know where the best place to get them is? Only one place seems to have the upgraded screen option.

Is the video card replaceable on the Clevo W350ETQ?
