I found myself looking at the service manual for the 5797 series
and was wondering what might be a good material to stick in between
the support plate and the keyboard so the right side flex would be reduced?

Some sort of compressed rubber perhaps, that could be cut to fit?

Left side of the keyboard is pretty solid, it's just the right that is a tiny bit
    distracting.

One thing about the rubber is heat. Heat is meant to dissipate through the notebooks' keyboard as well

I did some searching and found that Gophn had been suggesting people reseat their keyboards.

Personally I may do that and examine what can be done as I think mine is warped. It's high on the left side (solid) and low on the right (flexible) and there's a somewhat noticeable rise straight across the G key.

Anybody know if this was an issue at all with the 5796? Meaning is this something that occurred after the minor mobo mods that were made for C2Q support on the new version?

No, I have no idea, but since you've brought up this thread again... I did do a expanded version of the rubber band mod and it seems to have fixed most of the issue.
