Hey guys, my P150EM is having a weird keyboard lighting issue, happened after the update to EC 2.11 and BIOS 2.14.

Basically, when the laptop boots and jumps to Windows, the lighting is not switching from the default blue color and brightness. To switch to my chosen color (in my case, white with minimum brightness, but happens with any color really) I have to turn the lighting off and back on (Fn + *), or open the keyboard software (Fn + /). Also when resuming from sleep, the lighting doesn't turn on automatically, I have to repeat the same procedure as before.

Happens with both Windows 7 and 8 (I even tried 3 different Hotkey versions in windows 7, 6.0045, 56 and 69. Tried 8.0071 in windows 8. All fresh installs). Only thing I didn't try yet is partitioning and install from an UEFI windows installer (still couldn't get it to work), but I don't think that's the problem. I only know one more person with this same issue.

Have you tried reflashing the BIOS/EC?

Also have you tried removing the battery and CMOS battery (under keyboard)?

Reflashing this same bios you mean? This one's the latest, and there are quite a few reports of 150EM's bricking by bios downgrade.

Yes, the same bios/EC, if it refuses due to the same version you can flash the latest P170EM bios and back since I have done that myself just recently since I ran into the mSATA drive disappearing (in the end I needed to cycle the SSD by staying in the bios for 10 minutes).

Ok, reflashed both ec and bios, still the same issue.
I did remove battery and cmos already, but tried it again for peace of mind. Also no results.

Is the software set to start with windows? I believe it has to run to set it each boot.

Is it starting properly? Maybe a permissions issue? Try disabling uac...

I downgraded the bios, it's working properly now. Not only the keyboard, but also the bluetooth led (was always on).

From ec 2.11 and bios 2.14, I'm now with ec 0.07 and bios 0.10 (which I had previously). Windows 8 still works, as I have no uefi boot. Now, you are probably thinking how did I downgrade, if it bricks the laptop.
Well, remember that when you do upgrade bios and ec, always at one point you have a new ec and old bios working together with no problem. So I just downgraded the bios first, and then the ec.

Well, I guess even experienced users have to learn that lesson sometimes: If it's not broke, don't fix it.

And still thanks for the ideas and help Meaker. + rep :D

Not a problem. If you flash manually you can do both the EC and BIOS at the same time.

Ok, now I'm curious. How? Without using the supplied exe and bat files? Because if I do, the laptop will shut down after flashing either.

    You run the command yourself:

    AFUDOS.exe BIOS.rom /p /b /n /X

    and

    AFUDOS.exe EC.rom /c /X

/X is a force command, so be sure you have the right file, or you can try leaving it out.
