I'm going to buy either a 9262 or a 5793 soon and am somewhat familar with the specs with regards to gaming and such. I also read Chaz's and Aryantes' review of the two beasts.

However, I want to address this point in a little more detail and get some feedback.

I am planning [actually 1/3 of the way through Book 1] on writing a fairly long series of fiction books on this laptop and wanted to know what some of the current users here think about the keyboards on these machines...

I am guessing that whatever laptop I buy will receive quite a bit of pounding on the keyboard in terms of intense gaming as well as writing over the next few years.

Thoughts? What are your feelings about your machine?

Thanks for the input, the people in this forum rock!!!

The keyboard on 5793 (I presume that is the one you are asking about) is OK, but not as good as a good desktop keyboard. Part of the problem is the position of the wrists, and party because the keyboard keys are quite firm and have a lot of resistance.

However you can always plug in any standard USB keyboard.

    Corrected :)

Thats a good point on the keyboard and pretty useful when I'm at home.

Sadly, I would imagine that I'll be typing at least sometimes in places like the library or Starbucks where the space available might prohibit a keyboard.

    Any other thoughts or feedback?

I compared the keyboard with my bussiness class HP.
The keyboard on the HP is somewhat better, NO FLEX, whereas the one on the 5793 has LITTLE TO NO flex. Sweet feeling when typing on it.

What about the Number Pad layout ?

Surely there is enough room on a 17" laptop for Clevo to do a full number pad with +, - and Enter in a 4th column like a standard keyboard.

Dedicated Page Up and Page Down keys would also be nice.

Justin/Donald - Has there been any feedback to Sager/Clevo about the keyboard layout ?
Any prospect of a revised keyboard ?

I'll quote what I thought about the NP9262/NP5793 keyboard:
The NP9262 and NP5793 have the same keyboard. I have used many Sagers and other branded Clevo notebooks with it. It is definitely a solid keyboard, but there are a few layout cons. The numpad is arranged in only three columns versus the usual four, but it has all of the keys a normal numpad would have. My real con is the home/end/pgup/pgdn being integrated as secondary functions in the arrow keys.

The keyboard should be able to withstand a lot of use. The keyboard on my Sager NP5320 is not nearly as solid yet it has held up to everyday use and gaming for two and a half years.

    Great, thanks for the input!

Reason I ask is because my Acer Aspire 9500 keys are all about to fall off. Too much WoW and too much typing.

Plus my 2 year old decided that the space bar and the enter keys would look better on the floor than on the laptop. Yeah, I wasn't too happy about that!

Let's just say that he won't EVER EVER EVER come near my Sager when I get it!!!!

The Clevo keyboards are made by the largest manufacturer of keyboards in general (desktops and notebooks)... Chicony.
