I've been meaning to get a replacement for my defective stock Sager keyboard, but last I checked a few months ago the SteelSeries chiclet for-MSI keyboards were the only option and there were issues with the mapping of FN keys to suit Sager.

Is that still the case? Are there any other options and has anyone tried them?

We havent seen any alternate options and cant offer Steelseries anymore. If you can find one they will work but still have the different Fn mapping and they never did release remapping software.

Hey, thanks for responding. Didn't Mythlogic or Xotic offer Sager chiclet design backlit keyboards at some point? Can't I even get a stock one for replacement purposes?

Also, Are the FN keys just mapped differently on the SteelSeries keyboards, so different keys you get used to after a while, or completely unmapped ie; dysfunctional?

Lastly it seems that the S1N-3EUS271-SA0 SS keyboard is the one everyone is/was talking about, but are there any other SS keyboards that would fit and work in a P170EM? I'm interested in a win7 one, but might upgrade to 8 as much as I hate it just so I can get a keyboard upgrade. This laptop still has a good 2-3 years left in it and I can't imagine using the defective one I was shipped much longer now.

We did all offer them until Steelseries asked us all to stop. I can't speak for the other guys but we no longer have them.

The keys were full functional but one might have Volume + listed but actually turn on the WiFi which you would get used to after a while.

I cant say if that is the model we used since they are all gone. Hopefully someone who got one installed can mention what they have.

I did check several threads including that one, just wanted to get a confirmation that that info was still up to date, you fulfilled that, thanks :)

I'm travelling to England next month so I found a few listings in UK shops for the keyboard, I'll just get it from there. It seems kind of ridiculous though that Sager doesn't even offer replacement keyboards of whichever brand. What happens if someone's keyboard just breaks?

You can get a replacement for the stock sager keyboard. Contact your reseller and they should be able to order you one.

I used a label maker and printed a long strip with custom symbols to tell me what each key should do. I usually only use the screen brightness, volume and fan control, that's about it.

There are some Win 8 SteelSeries ones available. I use Win 7 so what major difficulties will there be if I get the Win 8 one?
